  • let's say by the end of December, he(?) will get full gym discount from the time he hits platinum up until the end of his policy year (so six months from January to June). It's after that point that the existing benefits will no longer be available.

    hooray!!!!!!

Yeah I suppose I'm luckier than others in that I'll get a few months gym membership out of it but I was paying quite a big premium every month with the idea that I'll end up with free gym for the forseeable future.

Its a shame they couldn't keep the same terms for the current policy holders who have been paying their premiums during this difficult time for companies like PruHealth and just change the terms for new and future policy holders. It would make sense to at least try and keep hold of the customers you've already got.

I guess if a deal seems too good to be true it usually is!

Any idea if existing members will be entiltled to that 35% cashback at renewal time? I'll certainly be cancelling at that point so it'll make it slighly less upsetting to get some £ back!
  • is it true that they are scrapping the 100% NCD?

 Afraid so. If your individual policy renews after 1 Jan 2010, I understand the best you will get (even at Platinum level with no claims) will be 25% of the previous year's premium as a No Claims Discount and a cash back of 35% (presumably also of previous year's premium). This is nowhere near the previous discount of 100% of your previous year's premium.

What is so wrong is that PruHealth are still currently advertising on their website and talking about 100% discount - which no one who joined as an individual from January 2009 will now be able to get.

I tried reporting this to the Advertising Standards Authority - who said they couldn't deal with it.

I think it is grossly misleading advertising.

I'm on a Group scheme, which has different rules. However I am certain that like the Group schemes, any cash back only gets paid out if you are still a member a couple of month's after renewal.

I'm not certain whether once you have renewed you can cancel a few months in - they tie me in for the full year on the Group scheme.

  • just posted on the other pruhealth thread in the forum - I am very annoyed that they have changed the T&C's in such a massive way . I am writing to them to complain - they will be losing me as it's no longer economical - seems they are penalising being fit and healthy now. hope they back track. will consider writing to watch dog etc etc
  • I'm still waiting for pruhealth to add the points from an assessment done on 22 Sep 09 - nuffield health (my gym) say they have sent the form and details. emailed pruhealth twice now - no reply but got their automated ref number. will now fax them the whole report (from work).
i think they're not bothered now as thye know a lot of free/reduced cost gym users will leave them next year.:(
  • I was lucky enough to join Pruhealth in it's early stages, and it was one of the best things I ever did. Thanks to them, I lost over two stones, my health has improved dramatically and the rewards are excellent...

    Or rather, WERE excellent.

Like so many other people on here, I received the letter this morning telling me that my gym benefit would be changing from free (I am currently a Platinum member) to 'a 25% discount', which equates to £33/month.

I have now seen online a summary of the other changes, none of which are beneficial to the customer.

e.g. No Vitality Starter discount of 25% for new members
Health screens now flat rate of 50% discount - (I paid £25 for mine this year - next year would be around £300 !!) - and no Vitality Points for attending.
Carried over points a flat rate of 10%
NCD drops from 100% for Platinum members to discount + cashback.

My only relief is that I have just renewed, so my gym will still be free until Nov '10 - however my wife joined a few months after me in Feb, so she will be affected very soon.
Needless to say we won't be paying for the gym... and that means that we won't be able to hit our points targets... and we won't be getting our 100% discount...

...And we won't be renewing our policies next year.
