so you have not had the letter yet that says it is changing from 27/04/10 even though my policy renews in november.0

I had a letter saying my gym/premiums will be changing from 27/04/10 as it is my renewal date. But my renewal date is October
Hmmm, that is really interesting. My letter reads as follows...
"To avoid any confusion, we wanted to let you know about our new rates as soon as possible. The change won't affect you until your renewal date of 30/11/10."
It seems as though there is some discrepency somewhere along the line.0 -

Wow just seen this thread for the first time...I'm up for renewal on 1st Jan but I haven't had any letter through about changes...so I have fired off an email to find out how my premiums will be changing.
I might also need to try and squeeze in a health screening before Xmas to avoid the price rises...cheeky b*ggers!0 -
Him,
I am a PruProtect customer and been having conversations with there customer service managers. I wont name him, but hes been investigating for me.
MY circumstances are, currently on free gym, aand as on a joint policy this ends this month. As an existing customer I was due 25% off gym costs.
Anyway - so far on the 2 official letters I have had from pru about the changes, they have cocked up.
1. 1st letter - stated 25% off gym second letter, said 20% and gym still free till end of next year.
2.Anyway - logged into my pru health portal, and gym costs showing - £30 a person, with no statement on what the original price of the gym is nor what the discount amount has been applied.
So, strong emailed followed to them and phones calls followed.
Current status is they are now saying I was reduced to vitality lite. This has started another investigation as no way did I ever sign up for that, even though different discount rates quoted on each letter.
Also - I want them to tell me what the gym cost is before discount so I know the correct discount has been applied correctly. They dont seem to understand they have to tell the consumer the charges, which I am sure they have to by law - can anyone confirm?
Anyway, if you are staying with pru, double check everything and email them if they seem unclear.

They definitely cocked up on the letters. They all give a date of 27/4/10 but they will send out new letters to state when your subscription runs till (ours is Nov '10). Due to our platinum status our health insurance is currently about £5 a month and £45 for the family for the Virgin gym. The gym alone will go up to about £120 per month and not sure about the insurance.
It was great scheme in concept. In fact, I would have happily paid more a month for the same package as we use the gym a lot, especially for the kids' swimming. But I think this is a massive faux-pas by Pruhealth and they'll lose customers hand over fist, the four of us for starters. As we also pay for kids's swimming lessons x 2 (which amounts to about £160 a quarter) that Virgin will miss out on. So this short term rememdy to increase revenue will mean there are three losers in this particular equation, us, Virgin and the greedy Pruhealth.0 -
I've just received my letter this morning
Its very sad news as I've been regularly going to the gym most mornings before work and have really enjoyed the benefits that brings.
Fortunately mine won't expire until September 2010, but after that I guess it will be runs in the rain and press ups in the bedroom...
My premium (with gym fees) will be increasing from about £4 per month to about £40 a month, so needless to say it will be nigh on impossible to continue financially.
Clearly without this I won't be able to build up enough points to enjoy any reward, so it will be goodbye PruHealth.
It has been a great scheme, and I imagine everyone taking part will be immensely disappointed that PruHealth has decided to go from one extreme to the other on this, and ignoring the fact that the previous system (where more frequent gym goers received lower gym fees) acted as both an incentive on cold wet dark mornings, aswell as benefitting PruHealth by less frequent claims by these individuals.
It would be interesting to hear what others' plans are in terms of alternative fitness activities? Morning Jogs? Tennis/Squash Clubs? Home gym? Cycling? Retain a gym membership/PruHealth Scheme?!
So long pru... thanks for everything... its a shame it had to end this way...Russell0 -
Got my letter this morning notifying me of new 25% gym discount from next renewal date (August).
Like others this will likely be more than I can afford. The old vitality system was superb and was the first thing that got me going to the gym regularly.
As a young healthy person I don't feel the need for health insurance that I can't afford. Will see how much gym memberships cost next Summer to see if I will continue or maybe take up a new healthy hobby!
The only plus of this is that if I don't need to worry about no claims bonus for the future so could claim for non-urgent minor procedures that I could get done this year (no not plastic surgery!!!)0
