  • Yes whatever your premium currently is in your first year, 10% of that premium is a good rough rule of thumb estimate of what it will be when you renew (providing you have stayed claim free and reached platinum of course).

If you added your partner to your scheme, then your renewal date will stay the same as it is now. i.e. your current renewal date will be yours and hers and will not change.

If you add your partner now then she pays the going rate at that time to start with just like you did. This is the case if you add her now or at renewal.

If i were you i'd quite fancy my chances of scoring the 3000 points before October (since your on 2000+ already) and therefore add her asap and only have 4 months paying full premiums for her. If you were to add her from renewal then you would have 12 months of paying full premiums for her + the premiums will be higher in October than they are now too. If you add her now and score the points then come October your both platinum and both only paying around 10% of your premiums. It is better to take the small hit now rather than the big hit later, as you'll end up paying more in the long run if you leave it till renewal.

In theory you could for example score all the 3000 points yourself only add her in September the last month, therefore she only pays one month full premium then renew in October and you both pay around 10% of last years premium. However a risky strategy and you would have to score the vast majority of the points yourself. Plus they tend to calculate your renewal premium offer 32-34 days before your renewal date, so you would have to ask for a recalculation. I personally probably woulden't leave it any later than around 2 months before your renwal date and of course you would have to be very sure you can both score the remaining points needed in the remaining time.

I just got my renewal quoate through and this doesnt appear to be the case. The renewal discount offered is 100% of the initial premium from last year rather than the combined premium when I added my partner to the policy. That makes this years premium much more than the 10% of the combined that was expected and suggested above.

Has anyone else been in similar position? I see that west12 asked a similar question on 09/09/09 and was given the same advice.

I'm in a similar situation. The renewal quote they've given me is just 100% of the initial premium, not the joint. The renewal quote is really quite large indeed! I've queried it and they're getting back to me...

    Hi Mikey P & West12,

I am a health insurance adviser and i added my wife onto my policy after being told exactly the same thing by Pruhealth via the broker chanels.

My renewal has come up and although i've got 100% off my 12 months, my wife joined 1 month before my renewal and she has only got 100% off the 1 month. Despite me being told she would get 100% off her annual premium by Pruhealth.

So although she is still very slightly better off than if she started from renewal its not what i was told.

I have asked when this ruling came into effect and was told its always been the case!

I have a meeting today with Pruhealth at 2.30pm which i am putting both my own questions and the questions of my clients to them to see what can be done about this.

I will report back to this board sometime tomorrow.

Please let me know if you have anymore. I have quite a few already though.

  • bah.. thats not good news at all

Ive just got to platinum today, after 6 months with them, renewal date is May, Im provisionally about to make a claim on pruhealth for knee treatment which could prove quite costly otherwise (and the aim is to make me pain free)

In these changes do actually happen and they dont change their mind not only will they lose me as a customer but also my husband who is with them as well (separate policies), he has been with them for about 2 years and has managed platinum no problem both years without a claim on pruhealth..

Not great news Pruhealth at all!!
  • Hi

Anyone heard any more from pru on this as due to the quietness, does not seem many people know its going to happen.

I've not received any letter from Pru. i joined after the rules were changed for gym use and have been paying just shy of £100 pm. Was happy with this as I knew I would be paying substantially less later. Just renewed a couple of weeks ago and paying £12pm, if the changes being mentioned here are correct, I shall be very p****d off and be leaving at next renewal. i feel I've been misled.

Scott, you've got PruProtect haven't you? Anyone had this letter for PruHealth??

Has anyone tried the new Nuffield gym Fitness test (Health MOT)?
Taken one in Sept but points are still not added. I've reached Platinum already, and my renewal was few days ago so it doesn't matter much but still:rolleyes:

I could fax them but there's so many pages unlike the ones from before which was only 2 pages:o
  • HI StuHolmes

yep I am a pruprotect customer, but the letter did say I would loose these options this year while everyone else would loose them next nov odd.

I am hoping pmispecialist/The Silver Surfer will post as I know he had a meeting with Pru last week to clarify and ask alot of the questions we have asked him to get a reply on.

Hes also away of the changes and I gather hes a pruhealth customer.
