  • My policy renews in 4 weeks' time. I am Platinum, and up to my limit on some of the points categories including the Fitness category. I don't need any more points.

I had a fitness assessment in the first half of my current policy year but I haven't yet had a second one.

My one question is this: would there be any benefit to me having another fitness assessment in the next 4 weeks, or should I just leave it until after my policy anniversary? I wouldn't get any points for it, other than possibly 50 for maintaining healthy blood pressure, but I certainly wouldn't bother with it just for an extra 7 points to start next year with! I suppose the only reason it might matter would be if the points I would stand to receive in my first FA of my next policy year would be invalidated because I didn't have one in the latter six months of the current year. But I don't think this is the case - AFAIK they just keep your stats on file and whenever you next log an update you get any points due for maintaining or improving them.

    Can anybody confirm?

Edited to ask one more question: If I set myself a Vitality Goal now that expires in my next policy year - for example, the 60 exercise sessions in 12 weeks thing, or the reduce my BMI thing - will there be any issue with the way the points are credited when I finish the task? Would it make a difference that the goal is completed in a different policy year from when it's set?

If anyone knows the answer to this I'd be interested too. I haven't reached my limit for exercise so a fitness assessment would just add to my points but I've already reached platinum. Will it stop me doing a fitness assessment as soon as my policy renews?

No 100% definately it will not.

Once you renew you stay platinum for the next 12 months. Your points go back to zero and you have to get another 2000 points (3000 if couple or family) within the next 12 months in order to be platinum for year 3. Everything is reset (except the 50 points for registering originally) so you can get to platinum exactly the same way as you did in year 1 if you so wish. i.e. score another 150 points for declaring yourself a non smoker, 300 x 2 fitness assesments etc etc

You are entitled to two free fitness assesments per policy year and if your start date was 1 st February 2008 you could have one say on the 5th Feb 2008 another on the 20th Jan 09 (thats your 600 points). Then next policy year starting 1st Feb 09 you can have another fitness assesment 2nd Feb 09 then another 6 months later. Remember your fitness assesments have to be 6 months appart in any one policy year, so you can have one either side of your renewal date.

  • Worth pointing out that not all your points reset, a % carry over depending on how many years you've held the policy. Can't login to check at the moment though.

Yes thats right you carry a percentage of your points over each year:

    10% first year
    15% second
    20% third
    25% fourth,fifth,sixth etc etc

  • I am currently on an individual policy which renews in about 50 days. I have 2550 points as a single member (I go to the gym a lot!!)

I have called PruHealth to ask about adding my partner to my policy. My understanding was that if we both join and reach the 3000 points Platinum Level prior to my renewal date, we will both be at Platinum for the entire of next year and *the entire policy* will decrease in cost for the entire year (ie if the combined premium is now £60 per month it'll be something like £15 a month or whatever for the both).

When I was speaking with a customer adviser at PruHealth they didn't quite seem to understand this and said that they'd advise adding my partner in the new policy year, rather than right now.

    (a) Which would you advise?
    (b) If it's to go ahead with what I thought and join now, achieving 450 points as a new member in 50 days is definitely possible isn't it? I'm thinking 50 for registering, 150 for smoking declaration, meal planning, stress tests, etc....?

    Thanks!!!!!

My advice would be to add her asap.

If you add her now you should easily score the 450 points within the 50 remaining days and therefore you will get the 100% of this years premiums off next years premiums.

So you end up just paying the increase in your base premium which is typically around 10%. So if your combined premium for the remainder of this policy year is around £60 expect to be paying around £6 monthly next year.

Thanks for the advice. What about the points for maintaining fitness level etc. Can theses also be added in the new policy year even if it was less than 6 months since your last assessment?

No. The idea is you have two fitness assesments per policy year at least 6 months appart and on the second one you then score the points for either maintaining or improving your fitness level.

However some people have gained improvement/maintainence of fitess level points this way (having fitness assesment either side of their renewal date) although it was/is a glitch in the pruhealth system. If you do score points this way consider them a lucky bonus. Usually though you get these points in the second of your two fitness assesments in one policy year.
