    Thanks guys!!

If the both of us take out the pru health policy and I join the virgin active gym, will my husband have to join the gym at the same time, or can we wait until we get to platinum so when he joins, his gym membership will be the same as mine, at the platinum rate?

You can join the gym at any time through PruHealth independently of each other. Even when you are not a gym member, you can both earn 300pts for a fitness assessment. Do this early in your policy and you can arrange another 6months down the line, at which point any maintenance or improvements in Blood Pressure, BMI and fitness levels will gain more than the 300pts.

    Nutrition: Maintaining BMI: 50pts
    Exercise: First Fitness assessment: 300pts
    Exercise: Second Fitness assessment: 300pts
Exercise: Improving fitness 4 levels: 370pts
Screening: Improving Blood Pressure 1 level: 100pts
Total: 1120... and you can now earn additional 50pts each for setting a goal to get your fitness assessed. Beware of category limits though.

This should set you well on the way to a higher status and discounted gym memberships. You can also get a FitBug pedometer for £15 to clock up points for activities outside of the gym (can't earn points on the same day, activites capped at 150pts/month). Might be useful if your partner is jogging outside of the gym :)

Just to let you know that with a bit of careful planning, I've reached Platinum status with a month to go on my policy.

Careful planning? I'm 300 points and 30 days from renewing at platinum and I've done next to zero planning. All I've really done is worn my fitbug every day. I haven't even earned the full 1500 exercise points. I guess I've been pretty lucky.

Am I right in assuming that if I reach platinum this year, it doesn't matter how long it takes to reach platinum as long as I do it before renewal next year (and so on)?

Can anyone point me to the changes that were meant for July on the pru site? Can't see anything about the 241 cinema tickets but it seems strange that you can't use that if you've got the unlimited card. If you usually go with a friend then surely it'd be no better to get a 241 deal than an unlimited card, since that's essentially 241 also
  • Hi
When I do the basic online quote with pru health the lowest quote I'm getting is around 50 quid. I'm a single male, no previous health issues, and choosing non london hospital. How are people getting the 25 quote online or am I missing something?!
    Thanks,
    B8

Age has the biggest bearing on the quotation. Single/married status probably has little affect. Try the different cover levels (varying excess, different things covered). I'll be 30 at renewal, male, no issues and the undiscounted premium is £561.36 per year (Core plan, non-London), which is 20% higher than my undiscounted first year's premium (2 years ago). Your online quote will include a 30% discount for year one, but there is cashback available from various means - eg quidco or some selected financial advisers.

Yes you have the whole year to reach Platinum again. On the other hand if you don't make platinum before renewal, you are not stuck on the renewal status for a whole year: you can strive for Platinum as quickly as possible. Of course your annual PruHealth premium is fixed based on the status at renewal..

Right, that's the problem I had this year, only got Gold last year and I've spent all year on it. I must make platinum this month otherwise this whole thing is a waste of money.

Anyone know about the 241 cinema thing?

Sly Dog's right Quidco will give you some money back. I also know a chap who works for one of the largest healthcare specialising insurance brokers in the UK and will advise you the best policy for you (i.e. make it as cheap as possible if thats what you want) and more importantly give you 30% of your annual premium cashback which should soften the blow of the first years premiums.

Can't post his details on here because of the anti advertising rules etc. But my email is surfer.spartacus@yahoo.co.uk if you want me to email his details.

There is a distinct similarity between this tout for business spam and the other similar posts by a rogue broker who used to come here breaking the rules. (Including setting up alias board names, abusing the pm system, etc).

Trying to get round the pm rules by asking us to email you is another cynical attempt to beat the no advertising rules:

    Well that's disappointing :(

I got my renewal today and it's gone up by £68 a year! That's assuming I get platinum, so next year I'll be paying £13.80 a month for gym membership. FYI I had no claims either. Thank god for the other rewards.

What increases has everyone else seen for their renewals?
