Okay, it is the 1st of August, the day my membership begins. Spoke to Pru Health on the phone (freephone no' nice!) and the advisor was supernice and I mentioned the JJB vouchers in conversation and he said they will be sending them out in 45days. What a bonus on top of quidco :)

On the LA Fitness front I have tried to join online at http://www.lafitness.co.uk/pruhealth/ but it keeps breaking down when it comes down to making an activation payment :(

So unfortunately I can't go to the gym today and having been a member for 2months straight (for free) thanks to another of Martin's tip I am not happy at missing my favourite class of the week.

But overall I am still super pleased with it all. I love MSE!

Has anyone had problems using this offer with Virgin Active (formerly Homles Place)?

I joined the offer in Dec 2006 and was paying £23 a month. After 6 months the +£25 kicks in. I've been using the gym for 6 months. I went to the gym yesterday and they said they had a new "system" and I needed to sign two contracts before using the gym -- one of which was a 12 month contract with Virgin Active and the other was a 12 month contract with PruHealth.

I don't want to be tied into such a contract so called PruHealth to cancel the policy. They said I had to give 1 calendar month's notice which means my last payment is on 1 September (£23+£25). I can't use the gym in the meantime because I've not signed the contract.

I'm going to lodge a complaint about it - but has anyone experienced this or has there been a mistake on their part or my part?

I've been with VA/Holmes Place since Sept 06 and they've never said I need to sign a new contract.

Instead of jumping straight in and ringing Pru to cancel why not just ask them if VA are right - the staff may just not understand the deal.

    Hi,

We're having a bit of a nightmare with PruHealth and Virgin Active (an original Virgin Active gym, not an ex-Holmes place) at the moment and I was wondering if anyone else is in the same boat.

The old-Virgin Active gyms have only become part of the PruHealth scheme since the beginning of July, so it all seems very new for them.

Basically, my wife and I cancelled our normal Virgin Active membership on the 15th July and attempted to re-join via our new Pru Health membership. We eventually got to speak to someone on the 17th, who didn't really know how to fill in the forms, what had to be done etc. Eventually this bit got sorted and we called PruHealth to activate our membership on the 20th.

It was all supposed to work so well, our existing membership was supposed to stop on the 31st July and our new membership was supposed to start on the 1st August.

On the 25th, I had a call from PruHealth saying that my Virgin membership had been validated. My wife hasn't ever received a call like this though.

Neither of us has received any membership cards, despite the fact that we are paying from the 1st August. Virgin Active will not let us enter the gym without the cards.

Someone in the gym has looked "on the system" and says that my wife's account has been "validated" by PruHealth, but that mine hasn't - Even though I was told that mine had been and she hadn't been told that.

PruHealth have said that they will get someone to call me back within 48 hours, but I haven't got any further than that. Virgin Active have said someone will call me back tomorrow.

When we have spoken to either of them, they both just seem to blame the other one.

    It's a nightmare...

    Adam.

Okay, I just thought yesterday that what happens when I go off on holiday in the next couple of weeks?! If I am away I obviously can't go to the gym twice a week. Does this mean I am liable to pay £25?

It says on the website that the summary of monthly membership are based on average weekly visits over a three month period. Does this mean I don't have to worry as long as I maintain my 3+ visits for the remainder of the time. I am only going away for a week!

Yes it means you don't have to worry.
The do an average precisely because people may not be able to go every week due to holidays, sickness etc.
