WARNING!!! Some of these deals don't actually include a free gym membership. If you have an existing Pru deal, check what is on offer for your gym first!

I go to the gym at least twice a week, so I phoned to find out if I could cancel my current insurance then re-join with the new deal. Some gyms are free, but my Virgin Active one is a whopping £40 extra for the first 3 months until they reassess how often you go - then it's £15 a month. That averages out £21.25 a month, rather than £15 a month as stated in Martin's article.

surely still cheaper than standard - my VA was £59 under corporate rate, now i'm paying £42, i'll drink to that
I never missed a payment :T , I paid off all my credit cards :T , I paid of all my loans :T , i have a work mobile :T - but am now "medium" credit risk
  • Is it possible to get quidco money twice as i cancelled my policy last year but want to do it again??Also how do we get the £100 jjb vouchers i saw it on the website but seems to have dissappeared.thanks

I currently pay £36 pm for my gym membership on a student rate at Virgin Active Sheffield = £432 per year and go 2/3 times pw.

If i went on to this offer it would be:
    £25 joining fee
    £90 for first 3 months
    £5 for 9 months
    = £160 for the year
plus the actual cost of the cover @ £17.80 pm (£213.60 py)
    = (£213.6 + £160) = £373.60 py (£31.13 pm)
minus the £155 cashback from topcashback
    = (£373.60 - £155) = £218.6 py

An effective monthly rate of £18.22.

But if only went an average of once per week, it would still work out at:
    £25 joining
    £360 for gym (£30pm)
    £213.60 for health cover
    minus £155 cashback from topcashback.
    = £443.6 per year that's £36.97

    SO....

Half price if i go more than once a week
    OR
A pound more if i go just once a week.

And free health insurance (with a £500 excess mind)

Seems worth the gamble that i'll still be going twice a weekin 5 months time.

Hi folks, I joined Pru and today the member pack came through but there was nothing about the free gym membership. When I rang Pru, the guy was pretty vague and thought the deal was 6 months free gym.
I'm now waiting for them to call me back but was wandering if anyone could tell me how to get the free gym started and if it is for 6 months or longer.

    Thanks

You must have spoke to a dope. The deal is definitely for a year and as Martin mentioned Pru health have signed a 5yr deal with the gyms so the likelyhood that it will remain active is high.

I'm not sure why Martin keeps referring to this as one big loophole. Pruhealth are actively marketing it on the tube at the moment with the choice of gyms and how the prices goes down.

Maybe, all the extra subscriptions have made it worthwhile turning it into a major marketing campaign. Congratulations Martin on giving Pruhealth so much free publicity to help out Pruhealth's profits - they're the bigger winners in all of this.

That may be true but anyone that is a regular gym membership will save a lot of money through this tip.

Stuff the Pru - I'm effectively getting free gym membership. As soon as I can take a cash alternative from my work health cover it will be even better...

If that helps the Pru's profits its a win, win situation. Without this website I would have been unaware of the offer and could be paying £44/month for gym only.
  • I signed up to take advantage of the free membership at my local LA Fitness. I registered for the gym membership online and prebooked my induction at LA Fitness. However when i went along to LA fitness no one had a clue about the Pru Health membership offer.

I was told that i could only have a membership card if i signed a membership application. This form had no mention of the Pru Health deal but instead was a contract to pay LA Fitness £560 for a 12 month membership. When i refused to sign i was told that i was being stupid. I was then told by the man that he really wasn't bothered as he would not be getting commission. In the end i left without a membership card.

I phoned LA Fitness's national call centre to complain and was told that they did not really know how the scheme worked either.

Having had enough of being messed around i have cancelled both my Pru Health and LA Fitness memberships. All I have lost out on is the £25 activation fee but i count myself lucky i did not get fooled into signing an annual contract for £560.

My impression is that Pru Health are trying my best to make this scheme work. This is obviously only an individual experience but i thought it worth posting as it suggests LA fitness have failed to properly communicate this scheme to their staff working in gyms and call centres.

As noted by Martin cheapest way to apply is via cashback sites, but if anyone has anything they need to declare this won't be 100% online and therefore won't track in which case take a look at boots.com

They are currently offering PruHealth with 50% off Premiums for the 1st year and 1000 Advantage Card points if you join by 31st August.
