If I take out family membership through Pruhealth, (2 adults 2 kids), Do I have to pay four lots of occasional membership of Virgin (4 X £25) for three months to get free gym membership. Seems hardly worth it.

my pruhealth quote was at £23.90, put myself down as non smoker, exercise 3hours+ , reciding in Lodon. Any way to get it cheaper?

Providing you don't intend to claim with Pru then choose to pay £500 excess on the page where your quotes are summarized. There is an option to pay £1000 but it doesn't apply to the basic "core" plan.

    Hope this helps. ;)
  • Hi I'm just trying to piece together the fragments of info I am picking up as I go along. Could someone have a look my calculations to check I have this right please?

I would like to join my local cannons gym. I have been quoted by Pru for Core cover at £21.88 and I will go more than twice a week (or swipe at least). In this case is the following correct:

    Month 1:
    £25 Joining fee
    £21.88 Pru Health Cover
    £25 Cannons fee
    Total: £71.88

    Month 2:
    £21.88 Pru Health Cover
    £25 Cannons fee
    Total: £46.88

    Month 3:
    £21.88 Pru Health Cover
    £25 Cannons fee
    Total: £46.88

    Months 4 through 12:
    £21.88 Pru Health Cover
£0 Cannons fee ( I visit or swipe twice a week)
    Total: £21.88 p/m

    1 x £25 Joining fee = £25
    3 x £25 Cannons fee = £75
    12 x £21.88 Pru Health Cover = £262.56

    Total for year 1 = £362.56
  • Hi guys,

I am wondering if someone can help / advise me, i'd be most greateful!

I already have Standard Life professional health insurance (provided by the company I work for).

Having seen the gym offer on this website, I have applied for PruHealth insurance adn have notified them of my already existing standard life insurance.

I am wondering is anyone in the same situation and how will I fair w my PruHealth application.

    Many Thanks
  • I've just been on the phone to the Pru checking this out and had a lot of questions answered that I've seen on this site. So I found out the following:

    1. If you take out a Pru health insurance policy of any grade (there are three options - Comprehensive, Essential and Core) you can also get discounted/free gym membership. The saving depends on how often you use the gym, which gym you intend to use and the location of the gym (i.e. London is a greater saving cos you won't get a gym with a swimming pool for less than around 60 - 80 pounds). You can sign up for any of the contracts at each gym and the prices vary depending on what you opt for. I'm looking at a connections membership to Cannons - this means I can use any cannons gym in the country except the 'city' gym. This would usually cost 85 pounds. The cost with pru depends on usage, i was quoted the following:
    - less than 2x a week = 58 per month- 1-2x a week = 45 per month- 2+ x a week = 20 per month. Bare in mind this is the most expensive option you can go for. If you opt to just visit one gym it is then completely free if you go more than twice a week and something like 15 pounds if you go less than twice.

    2. You have to pay a one off 25 pound activation fee. You don't get this back.

    3. Your usage is assessed in periods of three months. the main drawback is that it is assessed over the whole 3 months regardless of your circumstances. So if you are trying to rack up 3 visits to get the cheapest option and you go on holiday for two weeks, your going to have to make an extra 6 visits to the gym in your remaining 2 weeks. If you fall below the usage you will automatically be charged the corresponding rate for the following 3 months. I.e. if you drop down to 2 visits on average you would pay 45 pounds for the next period and so on. However there does not appear to be any checks apart from swiping in, so I cannot see any reason why you can't do a 30 min work out, or go and sit in the sauna for a bit!

    4. If you do go to the gym regularly this will add to your vitality points and bring the renewal cost down - a win win situation.

    5. To find out about excesses and discuss existing conditions you have to phone them, this does not appear on the website quote.

    6. if your work already pays for a private insurance but you think you can save anyway be careful because point 6.14 of the policy states that pru will not be liable to pay or contribute more than their proportionate share for any risks that are insured by other insurances. So you could end up with two insurance companies arguing about who is liable for what. I would check any current policies you have to check that the pru one won't interfere with them too.

    7. If you want to see what the policies in more depth these can be downloaded from the pru website in pdf format.
Wow i feel like an insurance sale person. I'm not pru agent honest, just very very bored at the moment!
