Thanks for the reply. I'm late 20's, no chronic conditions and would be joining up with my wife.

Why does having a chronic condition get you to a platinum status quicker?

If you have a chronic condition you can also score extra vitality points with vitality med.
Look at page 2 of this link

    https://www.pruhealth.co.uk/medical/pruVitality/pdfs/vitality_points_summary.pdf

Because you are joining with your wife you'll get there in half the time. So you can get there (to platinum) after three months.

They can't just change your premiums mid term unless you change something mid term. So i take it you have either changed something or their changing your premiums from renewal ?

I have many Pruhealth clients on my books and i have not come across this without good reason. Have you upgraded, added someone.....or most commonly for getting to platinum you get 100% of last years unclaimed premiums knocked off the next years. So if you have claimed they are going to take that into account and your premiums will therefore rise substantially if the claim is sizeable?

Do you mind me asking how much it was and how much they now want? Also your renewal date?
They've doubled mine as well, was 5 pounds something, now 11 pounds something per month. Member since Oct 06, I renewed in Oct 07, am Platinum. Haven't changed anything.
    My birthday is August.
I have not claimed at all, or gone to my GP or hospital etc.

Whilst not ideal from your point of view, it has to be pointed out that:

£11 per month for a private healthcare policy, free/cheap gym membership and all the other worthwhile discounts is still an amazing deal.

Most people would usually be paying around £100 per month for both depending on their circumstances.

Even though your points go back to 0 on 1 sept 09 you stay platinum for the next year and you then have 12 months to score 2000 points to be platinum for 1st sept 2010 onwards

You roll over points too so it gets easier.

    Year 1 10%
    Year 2 15%
    Year 3 20%
    Year 4+ 25%

If I reach Platinum before my policy ends - but havent joined a gym by then, will I remain at Platinum level for the next policy year?

I have to agree there, but why now?

I hope my premium is not about to double...I'm paying £91 a month!

Yes once you reach Platinum you stay platinum for the rest of the year AND you remain platnum for the next year as well, even though your points go back to zero at the start of policy year 2. You then have 12 months from the start of policy year 2 to get 2000 points (3000 if couple) to be platinum for the start of policy year 3.

Not sure, my renewal is in October and its lower than its ever been at £3.47 monthly (Essential plan, nil excess, just me, i'm 33 years old).

Do you have partner and/or kids on yours?

I'll see if i can find anything out and come back to you if i find anything.

Every pruhealth member has a base rate, mine last year was £601.68 annually. This year it went up to £643.32 (it goes up with age and medical inflation as does almost all PMI). So because i made platinum i get 100% of this years unclaimed premium (base rate) off next years

£643.32 - £601.68 = £41.64 Annual premium payable. Its the difference between last years base rate and this years

I opt to pay this monthly so £41.64 divide by 12 (months) = £3.47 Is the total monthly premium i therefore actually pay to Pruhealth.

Other than age and medical inflation your base rate will go up if you add people or upgrade your level of cover or remove an excess.
