Hi
I have just joined the Pru scheme after being with Norwich Union for 15 years with no claims at all and being asked to pay £196 for my wife and I on a basic no consultant fees, no outpatient benefits and 6 week scheme where I could claim only if the NHS waiting was longer than this.
Any advice on how to move up the scale from initial bronze membership ? I play golf and sail, my wife swims a couple of times a week, I understand there is a Fitbug? or heart rate monitor which can reduce fees in the vitality program, any advice greatfully received.0 -

Hi Happy Chappy,
Easier if i can ask you a few questions first.
How old are you both (roughly)?
Do either of you have a chronic condition i.e. Athsma, Diabetes?0 -
If its the same as when I got it then the Fitbug is £15 one off (normally £60+ and an ongoing annual fee if taken separately). That would certainly seem to be the best fitness points getter for you until you are Gold/platinum when you might want to get a gym membership. With your Golf rounds you would be likely to get the 12500 steps required to get 10 points.
You can also both get an initial fitness assessment at a Pruhealth affiliated gym (free, and you do not have to be a member). That gets you points for the assessment plus baseline measurements for weight etc. You can then get another assessment in 6 months which you get more points for, as well as gaining further points for maintaining healthy weight and fitness levels, or even more points for improving them.0 -

Hi PMI
Male 52 mild hypertension controlled with medication and no problems since medication, although no symptoms before, just found at the doctors but once on tablets it seems always on tablets , female 51 no conditions, none smokers.0 -
Hey guys,
Firstly sorry for sounding a bit stupid, but I've just been trying ot read through this and clrify the deal.
I am new to this and thinking of joining, please can someone tell me in simple terms how much it is likely to cost me per month, to include health insurance and gym membership outside of London?
It would be for a couple in 20's, with no on going medical problems.
Please help, i'm confused!0 -
Send PMISpecialist a PM and he will help, like he has helped so many on here. Otherwise you can get a online quote on the Pru website along with a online chat with one of there advisors. if you go this route, do check with PMI first though.

Hi Happychappy,
I'm thinking the same as luckyfool i.e. a fitbug and the health assesments.
Firstly though Hypertension is a chronic condition so you also qualify for vitality med too. So before you do anything i would advise you ask your doctor (or his/her receptionist) for a letter confirming that you have were diagnosed with Hypertension on a specific date. Pru should refund you if this does cost you any money (hopefully it will not).
Click on the following link: https://www.pruhealth.co.uk/medical/...ts_summary.pdf
This is the entire 'vitality' table AND (when you scroll down) the 'vitality med' table which you qualify for because of your chronic condition. Basically you score points the same as everyone else on the vitality table and you score vitality med points in addition to this due to your chronic condition.
So once you have sent your vitality med letter off to Pruhealth i would suggest:
I take it you have already registered on their website?
Log on to the website with your username and password:
300 points for you for registering with vitality med.
Set up your goals (call pru if you get stuck with this on their 0800 number)
Your first goal (and your wife's) should be a fitness assesment at a gym (lots of points for very little).
300 points for the fitness assesment for your wife plus 50 for achieving it as a goal
300 points for you plus 50 for achieving it as a goal AND 150 from vitality med.
150 points for your wife ticking a box online declaring your a non smoker.
150 points for you too for doing the same AND another 50 from vitality med
600 points for Glucose, Glaucoma, Cholesterol and a smear test for wife via GP
450 points for Glucose, Glaucoma, Cholesterol tests plus 50 extra for the Cholesterol via vitality med for you
You are both on 2600 points = Gold already, just 400 points short of Platinum within 1 month. You could get to platinum easily within in a month.
I can put this and more (i.e. all the way to platinum) in a table for you if you want and i have some slides with all the latest vitality rewards on too. Please email me at marcnicol@pch.uk.com of you want me to email these to you.0 -

Hi Bulldog,
Ok heres the deal. It roughly will cost you £25 ish per month each for the first year for your insurance. I can offset that slightly by giving you 30% of your first years premiums in cashback. So it will be more like £18ish each.
We can then divise your quickest route to platinum, it may take up to 3 months to get you there (as a couple). But the gym will still be less than half price for most of that time should you wish to join sooner. Do either of you have any chronic conditions i.e. athsma diabetes (this can speed things up for you)?
Once your Platinum in around 3 months the Cannons or LA fitness gym is free (or £8 via Virgin Active) AND in your 2,3.4 ect year you get 100% of your unclaimed insurance premium off next years.
So in years 2,3,4 etc if you haven't claimed on the insurance you just pay the inflation i.e. your insurance cost is £2ish each per month each and your gym is free (or £8 per month with Virgin) !!
Please email me marcnicol@pch.uk.com and let me know your ages and if you have a chronic condition or not. I can then put some more exact figures together for you and answer any questions you may have.0 -
