  • Well, looks like I am going to join Cannons - West Byfleet. Me and the missu will have a joint pru policy.

Got to now finalise my plans to get silver and then instigate the joining of the gym. Then, all being well, should be Plat 3 months later and no more gym costs - all being well.

Question - how do you join the gym. According to the manager at Cannons, you bring in your Pru membership details and they then sort it but Pru do all the billing.

    Is this correct?

The deal isn't as good as when it first started. If you sign up now you'll be paying gym membership and health insurance together which usually works out more expensive than gym membership!

It's only really a good deal if you plan to stick to this for at least 2 years and are able to reach platinum level.
  • oh ok! any offers on at any gyms?,i live in plymouth and cannons is like £50 a month!!
  • I have been looking round for ages for cheaper gym and no one seems to be doing offers of any major difference.

I chose Pruprotect as I have extra insurance to my family if anything happens to us, plus if gets me and the wife in the gym for alot cheaper/free of x period. Also going with pmispecialist he gives cash back depending on policy which may help.

Note: FAO StuHolmes or others at Cannons. Going to arrange my fitness test mid week and it was said there maybe the issue with Cannos and there Nuffield health check instead of getting the Pru one which I need for my points. How did you specify you gor the right one as will be doing the health check prior to joining the gym?

Well for a start I think the Nuffield Vi1 costs around £80 whereas the Pruhealth one is free. I think the Nuffield one is more of a health screen rather than just a quick fitness assessment. I'm sure you'll be fine if you tell them it is for Pruhealth.

In a nutshell with Pruhealth at the moment your healthcare insurance costs somewhere around the same price as your age for the first year (check for yourself www.pruhealth.co.uk) You score as many vitality points as you can asap. Getting to platinum takes around 1 to 4 months depending on your circumstances (age/gender/your partner on the scheme/whether you have asthma/diabetis another chronic condition and whether your prepared to pay for some things).

Once your platinum (1-4 months) Cannons and LA fitness gyms are free and virgin gyms £8 per month outside the M25 (there is a small fee if your inside the M25 i.e. Cannons and la fitness £8 per month. Virgin is more depending on which one).

In year 2, 3 ect you get 100% of this years unclaimed premium off next years. So you end up paying around a fiver for your insuance and your gym is free*!! (*refer to previous paragraph).

You also get heaps of very worthwhile discounts i.e. 40% off Mark Warner Holidays, Cineworld annual pass for £25, Nights at Champneys for £40 including all three meals and massage (retail £200+), Full health screenings for £25 (retail £400+) Eurostar tickets to Pais, Lille Brussels for £10 etc etc

If you would prefer life insurance, critical illness cover, income protection, unemployment cover you can take out a policy with Pruprotect (has to be over £25per month from inception)and get all the same benefits (your premium goes down 2.25% every year compounded for getting to platinum).

If you come via me i can get you cashback (30% of your first years premium (minus 5% tax) with Pruhealth and 50% with Pruprotect payable within 6 weeks) there are also cashback sites i.e. Quidco, Topcash ect ect.

I have sent you a private message.
  • woolly22,

No, although your points are reset at the start of each policy year, whatever status you reach in each year of your policy is retained throughout the following year, until such time as your points that year exceed your previous year's status (if you were lower than Platinum, that is) at which point your status immediately increases.

Sorry i thought it was calculated per month i am on platinum at renewel but currently am on bronze so i thought i would be paying the bronze fee for the gym (around 40 quid i think ) until i got too platinum again .

thats great so i will be paying 6quid a month for me and the wife for the gym result .:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T

the wife will be pleased as we had budgeted to be forking out the fees till we reached platinum status again ....

now shall i tell her as she will be down the shops now ..

until december when you will be bronze unless you can reach platinum by then ,unlikely

Why? If you are at platinum at the end of a policy year you retain that platinum status for the full following year. Why would he/she be bronze?
