Just spoke to one grumpy individual who has obviously had too many people calling up asking for a quote. Phone was put down on me!
Tried again and spoke to a very helpful bloke who gave me the points without a quote :T
He did say that the quote must be within 30 days of when the insurance is due, so as posted above, a good idea would be to get a quote on a car you are pretending to buy. Or just keep calling back until you talk to someone with a nice demeanour!0 -
I've just rang 0113.... spoke to a nice lady mentioned about instore leaflet offer of 500 points for a motor insurance quote and told her that my renewal date is on 6/08/07 ( not lying;) ) and was asked if I have my renewal policy at hand and told her I haven't received it yet. She then told me she'll give me the points and ask my card number and just ring back later if I've got my renewal policy. No sweat! :T Thanks to Martin and the OP.0

Just tried to claim my free 500 points, got through to Tesco OK but was then told I could only have a quote for car insurance if my current insurance ran out in the next 30 days. Oh well, never mind.0

I just called via the 0113 number, no problem, then spoke to a lady who asked when my renewal was, I said end August thinking I could change it to early Aug if this was a problem. She said I needed to call nearer the time but I was very polite and said I was calling now because of the points promotion, which would have ended by then - she said she had to ask a manager if they'd authorise that, went away for 30 seconds and said no problem! She did say the points will be on my account within 30 days rather than by November, but I took her name and will check back to make sure this is done. Just over 5 minutes on the phone in total.
Moral - if the quote isn't available, or points aren't offered, just ask very nicely, and with a smile!!
Thanks for the tip guys!0 -
I have just called (luckily on the 0113 number as I was on hold for 10 mins) and said I had seen the advert re points and quotes. So he took some details, but when i said my insurance was due in september, as before, he couldn't quote me. I asked if I was still eligible to claim the points, but I was told I wasn't!! I am very disappointed now!0

Called back again using the 0113 number..... got a very nice lady who said I could have the 500 points but as I was enquiring on line at the same time as speaking to her, it would be much cheaper for me to take the online quote as I got a 15% discount. Said that way I wouldn't get my 500 points, oh yes, I will give them to you any way, give me your clubcard number. A result.:T
Thanks Martin..... points to be added to my August statement.:j0 -
Woohoo! after reading your post dishydora, I decided to call back and I told the girl I had called earlier to get a quote and wasn't allowed to claim the points because the quote was too far away - she said I should have got the points and she sorted it out for me!! Also said the points will be on August statement! Thanks Martin!!!!0

rang at 2.30pm
they picked up at 2.39pm
I had 500 points added on at 2.40pm
so 700 points in total in the past 2 weeks just for ringing up (with the health insurance quote too)
All going towards my stupidly expensive free eternity ring from Goldsmiths.Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?
