It's not much of a "rule" when there are plenty of red bridesmaid dresses for sale!0 -

Maybe it's a newer 'rule' then? Maybe it's only been 'introduced' as it were in recent years?0 -

There aren't really any "rules" - although the wedding industry promotes all kinds of weird ideas.
There may be local or cultural traditions but the only "rules" are the legal requirements.0 -
How ridiculous, wear what you want. I wore gold at a wedding, then a black with purple polka dots prom style dress, then a purple and blue layered halter neck dress. As I went to three weddings pretty much in a row and dress 2 was definitely the one that looked best on the photos. So stuff the no nos.
The brides were stunning and happy in all 3 and didn't give a stuff what I wore.0 -

I have chosen a more discreet "hatinator" which does not scream "harlot";)0 -
It was said, years back, the you shouldn't get married in red, as it denoted the 'scarlet woman/probably not a virgin' concept (all red hat and no drawers, as the saying went).
But, I don't ever remember anyone worrying about what the guests were wearing.

If I ever get married, I'll be wearing red. I expect the groom would be all in black, my best mate who'd be filling in for a father would be all in black with a red bandana and there would probably be at least five people there who, over the years, have dated one or the other of us.
Mind you, if the bride in the OP has this bee in her bonnet about this, you can expect her to start laying down the law with him once she's Mrs Bunnyboiler rather than Ms. This rarely ends well: so don't bother tiptoeing round, wear what you want. It's not as if they'll be showing their great grand kids the photos.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -

I'm sure you're not, but that's why some people think it's rude. Ever heard the expression 'scarlet woman'?
This is not good. I wore red to my brother's wedding, as did the bridesmaids (his SiLs). :eek:0 -
I'm getting married in red, and the ties for the guys are red, as are my flowers
And my daughter who is giving me away is wearing emerald green.
Just need a black cat now lol0
