Is it ok to wear red to a wedding?

I have heard that one about wearing red to a wedding means you've had it away with the groom. But I always thought it was one of those silly sayings that everyone giggles about but no-one actually believes!Public appearances now involve clothing. Sorry, it's part of my bail conditions.0

Last two weddings I went to I wore black and cream to the first and a black, fawn and grey flecked maxi dress to the second. Looks like I committed a huge faux pas then..*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200

I agree, but some are just plain old daft. Ive never heard of that one, in fact Ive never heard of very many traditions to do with weddings. Ive been to a few in my time, all I did was get the invitation, buy a present and turn up with a dress on.
Never crossed my mind as to whether I should wear red, green, black or if the bride wore green it might be a bit odd.
Ive had the odd look on the weddings boards when someone has started a thread and I do see that some people have very traditional views.0 -

I'm sure you're not, but that's why some people think it's rude. Ever heard the expression 'scarlet woman'?
 oh dear I am going to a wedding in 2 weeks and I am wearing red!! I went to a fitting with the Mother of the Bride yesterday and she loved it, so I don't think she has ever heard that either.
I thought the term "Scarlett woman" came from the time when adulterous woman had a Scarlett letter A stamped on their foreheads. As in the film.
Op, if you like it wear it.0 -

Its actually from the bible originally I believe, but the colour red has that association in a lot of contexts, red lights in windows and so on.
I'm sure most people these days wouldn't remotely think that way, but some older/more traditional guests might I suppose.0 -

I'm 70, and been speaking to my sisters and sil (aged 68, 66 & 74 respectively) - all who have been to a hell of a lot of weddings over the years - and none of us has heard of red as being a no-no - in fact the only no-no colour has been white - although it was considered unlucky for any of the bridal party (bridesmaids etc) to wear green (that's a fairy colour!)
In fact no 1 sister is wearing red to her son's wedding in two weeks time.0 -
I did say 'some' and 'might' thorsoak, not all and will.0

Forget about being a scarlet woman ladies. I'm sure you'll be much more akin to Chris De Burgh's 'Lady in Red'. :beer:If you want proper advice, please consult a legal professional. I am not one! Thanks.0

I think it's from St John's visions in Revelations? A woman wearing scarlet, with something about mother of !!!!!s written on her forehead....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0
