New Lloyds Club current account

I had to close a new account with Santander, then apply for a new one and do the switch then.
  • Logged into my account over the weekend and there was the ad for Club Lloyds......clicked on the link to find out more and the window advised me I was ineligible (even though they gave no prior information about criteria......and none afterwards either). Having been a customer of 43 years with brilliant credit history, this was a great surprise. My wife (separate account) also tried and the same result ensued. She decided, on the spot, that with 40 years history with Lloyds, she would move accounts elsewhere because of this. I decided to complain and today spoke to a customer services advisor to say that I do not believe it ethical nor do I want to waste my time being offered a new account with benefits that is then denied to me. In this day and age of targeted marketing, the bank has all the information required to avoid blanket ads that end in disappointment and frustration. Clearly, the advisor had no script to counter this complaint. As 'retailers' would these people like it if they saw a watch in a jewellers and walked in to enquire about it, only to be told that they were 'not eligible' to purchase one? I've had enough.......my better half was right!

If you're a new customer can you get into Internet babking straight away or do you have to recieve a code or a card reader before you can use it?

You can log into Internet banking straight away but you need to wait on an activation code in order to set up new payments etc.

What it's definitely worth doing is phoning Telephone Banking and requesting a security number. That way, if there's a delay in the activation code, then as long as the security number arrives you can still make transfers etc.

I just upgraded to Club Lloyds and got my new debit card. Yay.

BUT I ALSO GOT SOMEONE ELSE'S DEBIT CARD.

It appears Lloyds has sent another card addressed to me and my address but attached a completely random card to it. Name, card number, sort code and account number is completely different to mine. Just issue dates are the same.

Is this ID fraud (guess not since not my account number) or a massive mistake by Lloyds?

Have sent it back to Lloyds informing them of the mistake. Trust level has dropped a few notches..

I was wondering if someone could help.

I seem to have got in a pickle with moving my Vantage account over to a Club Lloyds account.

I'm sure I clicked the 'upgrade account' link next to my Vantage account in internet banking but when I submitted the form containing my old and new account details, I had a Club Lloyds account with nothing in and my Vantage account still intact.

Have I gone about the process wrong? I don't want two current accounts.

    Thanks.

    Hi paul_liverpoolfc,

It does sound like a second current account has been opened for you as opposed to your original account being upgraded to Club Lloyds.

If you've not already done so, I'd recommend giving us a call on either 01733 347 007 or 0845 3000 000 for help with this (lines are open 24 hours a day). Alternatively, one of my colleagues at your local branch will also be able to assist.

    Thanks,

Despite complaining two weeks ago the unrequested copy of Harpers Bazaar arrived yesterday... Useless!

I sense a third formal complaint coming on.

    Hi kar999,

Apologies for the inconvenience. Have you spoken with our Lifestyle Benefits team since you received the magazine? If so, are they dealing with it for you?

    Thanks,

Thanks innovate, but it wouldn't be my only account.

When I opened a Santander account recently I was told I had to set the switch up when I applied. I was just wondering if the same applied to Lloyds.

If you're a new customer can you get into Internet babking straight away or do you have to recieve a code or a card reader before you can use it?

    Hi theianfox,

After you've opened your account with us, you can complete the switching process at a later date. There's info on how existing customers can do that here.

Regarding Internet Banking, in some cases, customers can log on immediately. There's info on that and our registration process here.

    Hope this helps,

    Hi pablobanker,

Sorry to hear you're thinking about leaving us and apologies for any distress or inconvenience caused by the advert. When you called, was your complaint closed on the call or were you advised someone would be getting in touch with you about it?

If it was closed on the call and you're unhappy with the outcome, you can find info on how to proceed with your complaint here. You'll find a link within that section to our online complaint form which you may find useful if you'd rather submit it online. One of my colleagues will then get in touch with you.

    Thanks,

    Hi choc_mouse,

That sounds very unusual. As the letter was addressed to you, but the name on the card was different, it doesn't sound like ID fraud. If you've any concerns about your accounts, please give our team a ring on either 01733 347 007 or 0845 3000 000 (lines are open 24 hours a day).

Thanks for sending the card back and apologies for the inconvenience.

Despite of meeting the criteria of 2 dd's and paying in £1,500 a month Lloyds charged me the Club fee of £5. It debited from my account today.

I phoned Lloyds and it would appear they have a problem with their system.

I suppose even the best banks like Lloyds cannot get things right all the time.
