I dont use calls, use data predominantely.

I have an data sim with 3 month expiry data. I am using asda mobile on a strictly pay as you go basis. 8p calls, 4p text. Disabled data (at 5p a mb it will be expensive 100mb for £5!!)

I will trial and use data off a mifi device. I think I may ease the pain of losing £20 off ovivo if I can run off ASDA mobile for a couple quid every month.

looking for a sim for my parents, they have old nokia's (never used the data on ovivo) so does that mean I can't used 3 for a 321 sim?
    TIA
Life is a coin, you can spend it anyway you wish, but you can only spend it once.
Go as far as you can see, and when you get there you'll see further.

It would need to be a 3g phone for 3. Plenty of old Nokias will be, but the more modest models not.

Look up the specification either in the manual or it's probably quicker on a site like GSMArena

    Not unless its a 3 g phone.

See my post no 16 for other alternatives suitable for low users.

There's always Samba I guess - if you want to risk it!

    Now I'm off to a 3 shop :-)

Funnily enough, it was my spare ancient HTC desire with a Samba SIM that we're using to keep up on line until we replace the Ovivo sims.

Always knew it could/would go under eventually - pays to have a backup plan :)

Must admit, the Tesco Moto G 2 yr contract for £12.50 seems a bargain when the same Sim-Only deal is £10.

OP said his dad does not have 3G phone therefore 3 no good. Suggest giffgaff. Runs on O2 network, normal credit £10 gives calls at 10 per minute, texts at 6p per text and free calls to other gg numbers (if you top up once every three monthsafter this normal rates till you top up). Your dad could probably go best part of year with single top up as if referred by another user you get £5 extra credit - just go onto giffgaff site forums and click link at bottom of any users messages or PM me and I can provide link.
I was pleased with giffgaff, customer service very good and only left after local changes ready for 4G transmissions led to weaker signal on O2 within my home. Worked fine in Nokia 6310i.:)

For the record, just got my PAC code within 4 - 5 hours of requesting it.

Remind me, how long do most carriers take to issue one of these? And it's being processed by people who just lost their jobs.

Been looking myself as Dads Ovivo has gone and I had bought a Ovivo sim recently and was about to switch from My Orange £10 a month bundle thingy that gives a load of texts and Data but no calls included and seen most £10 bundles include them with others.
Dads a very light user of calls and one or two txts a year on a none 3G phone.

    So two totally different users.

My research so far using well established players/big names PAYG only:

For Light user (Dad): 321 with Three if you have a 3G phone.
Otherwise Asda/Sainsburys mobile basic call rates undercut the main networks inc Giffgaff at 8p per min calls, 4p a txt.

For me who uses Data, calls and txts and currently spends a tenner for some data and txts (I would think this would be better for most ovivo users):

I would suggest GiffGaffs £10 a month Goodybag.
    • 250 500 UK minutes
    • Unlimited UK texts
    • 1GB Internet
    • Free to giffgaff
Which seems to beat the supermarket bundle packages.

Suppose very heavy users would be better off on a contract.
Hi there! We’ve had to remove your signature. It was so good we removed it because we cannot think of one so good as you had and need to protect others from seeing such a great signature.

If it helps anyone GiffGaff are offering free £10 credit for anyone who ports over a number from Ovivo being new user or current user, this has to be from an existing user recommendation (this gives each £5 + you get the £5 for porting), otherwise it is £5 for any user who ports the number.

Good temporary stopgap while people take time to work out the best for them.

    Hi folks,

It was quite a surprise to see the Ovivo mobile network close its doors last night. We know that quite a few of our members used Ovivo in conjunction with giffgaff, and that others made a complete move from giffgaff to Ovivo.

It can be a nightmare when you don't have a working phone, and so to help people back up and running again we want to make your transition to giffgaff smoother if you want to come over - or come back.

From now until the end of Sunday, March 23rd, any SIMs ordered from giffgaff, including from a member's referral link, will be sent by First Class post. That way, if you order soon, you should get your SIM before the weekend (although that's of course depending on how fast your postman's legs are).

In addition, we know that a lot of people will have lost some credit, and so to give you a kick-start, if you bring your number in from Ovivo before the end of April, we'll give you an extra £5 credit to get you back on your feet.

We really hope this helps people that have found themselves bit stuck. If you need a hand setting up, have a quick look at these articles on activating a SIM card and transferring your number - they'll walk you through it. As always, if you have any questions afterwards, our Help forum is always open.

    Cheers all."
I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.

I asked for my PAC last night, but I had (very stupidly) ported my number over to Ovivo in January, so I expect I won't get a code.

Are the e-mails coming from Ovivo?

Just off to check span.......just in case.......won't hold breath...
