Just to say that my relative's mobile number was finally ported out of Ovivo today to a Virgin Mobile 1 month contract plan. It was a relief to get this done before the company finally turned out the lights for good.

If anyone has still not recovered either their mobile number or their money from Ovivo this website appears to contain some possibly useful contact details:-

  • Well,

I've ended up buying a new handset outright (as my Samsung Galaxy Ace was doing my head in - awful phone) and got a Nokia Lumia 625 for about £100 from phones4u. I've gone onto an Orange Pay as you go Dolphin plan - which means if I top up £10 a month minimum I get 1gb data (which I mainly use) and 400 free texts, so the £10 will just cover all my phone calls and should be more than sufficient.

I'm pretty happy with this, phone is so much better than the galaxy ace, and that'll be no contract ties and £220 over the course of the year including the handset. I may switch to a giffgaff package at some point if topping up each month starts to annoy, but think for now it's a good temporary stopgap. Pac code all sorted and number transfered to Orange within 24 hours.

However, firstly I did actually try to sign up for a cheap contract deal via mobiles.co.uk (carphone warehouse I believe) and t-mobile - and this was a complete disaster, it was a £5.99 a month deal for a Nokia 520 and X number of minutes/texts/data etc - and they failed me on a credit check (due to an address mismatch on their system - they got confused which flat I live in and were running this incorrectly) - and then ran 5 further credit checks without my permission over the next day - I spent a weekend of stress on the phone to mobiles.co.uk and t-mobile, was hung up on by 'managers' in the T-mobile call centres 4 times and probably spent about £20 on the numerous phone calls to them...I've currently got a notice of correction on my credit file, and they still haven't removed the unpermitted checks that they ran on me and I decided to cancel that application to join them - after my experience I'd avoid anything to do with mobiles.co.uk and t-mobile, absolutely appalling servive.

Oh, and this all happened a week before we were applying for our first ever mortgage on a flat we've had an offer accepted - so potentially they could jeapordise this too.

Anyway, at least my phone number works again! It was nice whilst Ovivo lasted, always thought it seemed too good to be true!

    That's a nice price for the 625!

    Is the 625 unlocked?
  • No it's not unlocked I don't think, but I think there's a load of places in town I could unlock for a Tenner should I wish...I think you could buy unlocked for £119 in P4U though.

Yes, people say the 625 screen resolution isn't great due to a low pixel count for the size of the screen but it's absolutely fine to my eyes - and is a hell of a phone for that sort of money - I'm not app-crazy, just need the basics and a phone that isn't an utter ballache to use, I can't believe the galaxy ace 1 is still £70 unlocked new, it's no way only £30 less of a phone than the lumia 625!

Are you sure as with Phones4U it seems to depend on the phone and the network.

Just checked my Tesco credit card account & they have credited me with £20 from my purchase of the Ovivo sim that I received and was in the process of setting up when they ceased trading.
Also got £5 Quidco cashback (which I have donated to the 444run charity runners).:)

We are not suggesting Ovivo has acted improperly.
Well I will. I've said it before and I'll say it again.

Classic ponzi scheme which was doomed to failure from the outset, as all ponzi schemes are.

Good luck in your attempts to get people their money back you were all so eager for them to part with in the first place.

Perhaps MSE Martin should consider making a refund out of his own pocket (he can afford it) to all those who took his advice and were suckered into this ponzi scheme as a result

(Of course, if you are successful in getting anything back eventually, then such refunds can go back to MSE Martin)

I completely support this; there were many saying ,ahh its only £20 ,but nabbing this from all the customers from the hype they got over at Hotukdeals , I believe was intentional & possibly a slow trickle Pyramid scheme ,so as to fly low under radar conceived years ago that they knew would pay big 1 day
  • Just received an email from AABRS, insolvency specialists, with the subject "Ovivo Molbile Communications Limited". It looks like Ovivo has finally filed for bankruptcy - probably on the back of all the action that MSE has initiated.

There is a lot of more background information made available behind the stoppage of services once you log on to the AABRS website - this is the documented in the Trading History for OVIVO.

    Just my two cents...

P.S. Fortunately, I used PayPal to pay for my service and was still within the minimum 45 days in order to file my claim for a refund. They ruled in my favour and I am pleased that I go my £20 back.
