As mentioned in my earlier post and noted my chris-j, my Dad doesn't have a 3G phoned so 3 is no good.

I saw someone mention on another thread that O2 isn't a great network. I guess it would be a case of trying it out.

Another problem is that he doesn't have a landline and the mobile is his only communication so I need to get something quickly. We are in a small town and don't have any mobile phone shops, but we have an Argos and I wondered if I could get something there?

I can't even get in contact with him to let him know what has happened. He might not even notice seeing as he uses the phone so seldom, but it would be just like the thing if he needed it.

On Three's website right now you can buy a nokia C2 3G phone for £29.99. So for £39.99 you can get it with a top up that will probably last him 2 years.

Part of the Furniture 1,000 Posts Combo Breaker I've been Money Tipped!
    Argos how about this http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5187760.htm
£2.99 if you are lucky enough to have it in stock just pinch the sim out of it :) and have a backup phone.

Cheapest sim at Argos is 50p

Did not realise that 3 had to be a smart phone... oh well you live and learn. I would still advise patience order a GG sim and it will be with you soon (probably Friday) if your Dad or you were anywhere near Brum I would offer to drop one of the ones I have round.

I would advise against 02 just expensive, Tesco Mobile and GG are cheaper.
I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.

    Tenth Anniversary
    Thanks.

The Argos link is just giving me a blank page and I've tried it in 2 different browsers.

I was wondering about Asda as we have one locally, but they are with EE and the coverage checker is showing a very poor signal.

It does not . 3G doesn't necessarily mean a smart phone, just the ability to work on 2100MHz.

Nokia were producing 3G phones yonks ago.;)

Three is cheaper and easier at the moment:

    http://www.three.co.uk/Store/Pay_As_You_Go_Price_Plans

    3p a minute, 2p a text, 1p a MB.

I have a list going of cheap providers over at HUKD at the moment. If anyone has anything cheaper to add, I would be grateful to hear about it.

    Doh Why do i bother.

Guess what i am aware 3 is cheaper and its already been recommended in this thread, but i clearly say alternatives to 3 on alternative networks in my post dont i. Because some people dont have 3 compatible phones as posted in this thread and some people cant get 3 signal and some dont want to use them.

Sorry mate, it's been a long night of reading. You post in the other thread with the link to http://petef.22web.org/payg.html is very interesting. Thanks for that.

Some may find this useful .

Localphone have introduced a callback service. Handy if your on a expensive payg tariff.

To quote them "Perfect for pre-paid (PAYG) mobile customers Call our Callback number for free and avoid paying your operator anything"

    http://www.localphone.com/services/callback

They call both you and your contact number so you’ll pay lower rates for both parts of the call.

E.g. If your on a UK Payg Mobile calling another UK Mobile you’ll pay 1.8p + 1.8p = 3.16p a minute . No connection charges. Cost of call calculation will be based on the length of the call rounded up to the next nearest full minute. Its a Prepay Service. You agree that Localphone can expire any credit that remains unused for a rolling period of 365 days (if you do not make a call for 365 days the credit will expire).

Can also be used from contract phones eg if you run out of inclusive minutes

    No Probs. :D

Heres a little heads up about 3 .

http://text2topup.com/uk/call_throughs_three/ offer a short code for 3 users which means you can get UK Landline Calls down to 2p a minute.
