Only just heard about this and look at GiffGaff, seems to be £10 a month and you get
    500 minutes
    unlimited texts
    1GB mobile internet
free calls and texts to giffgaff numbers

like i guess so many now i'm on the hunt for a new provider.

I am switching the OH to 3 and got a sim ready just in case this happened.

However my Dad doesn't have a 3G phoned so 3 isn't suitable. I would appreciate any suggestions of PAYG for a dumb Nokia that doesn't need data.

How many minutes does he need?
    How many texts?

if not many of either then any of the pay as you go's will do

GG do 60 mins 300txt for £5 a month or maybe one of the £10 deals from EE, Voda or Tmobile etc (avoid 02 all of theirs are rubbish!)

Don't forget all use cashback sites, if not and want to use GG make sure you help yourself and others by getting a referral anyone wants one PM me.
I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.

    Thanks for the reply.

He uses next to no minutes, maybe 10 minutes a month if he's really pushing it, no texts whatsoever. For that reason I would like a PAYG sim with no monthly fee, just top it up when it runs out.

    Get a Three 321 sim.

Best payg tariff there is. Simply 3p per min, 2p per text and 1p per megabyte.

If he uses 10 mins per month then you will be topping up once per year maximum.

Then any will do just choose the cheapest. GG without a goodybag is quite cheap but with 3 it is only 3p minute per call and 2p per text message.

Only just noticed this. Infuriating, I was using it this afternoon and there was not mention in the webpage adverts that it was closing. They at least could have emailed us or something. Fingers crossed I gave them my real date of birth so I can get a pac code (normally I'd just log in and look at my profile on their website to see what details I gave them but they have closed all that now grr).

I actually had quite good value over 18 months. I never topped up and ran my credit down to 70p so it could have been worse. Still an annoying way to end it. But at least I'm not one of the crowdsourced venture capital people who gave them several hundred pounds.

Looks like a helpful table for payg cards. Only really applies to people like me who use so little a contract is not worth it.

OP said his dad does not have 3G phone therefore 3 no good. Suggest giffgaff. Runs on O2 network, normal credit £10 gives calls at 10 per minute, texts at 6p per text and free calls to other gg numbers (if you top up once every three monthsafter this normal rates till you top up). Your dad could probably go best part of year with single top up as if referred by another user you get £5 extra credit - just go onto giffgaff site forums and click link at bottom of any users messages or PM me and I can provide link.

As mentioned in my earlier post and noted my chris-j, my Dad doesn't have a 3G phoned so 3 is no good.

I saw someone mention on another thread that O2 isn't a great network. I guess it would be a case of trying it out.

Another problem is that he doesn't have a landline and the mobile is his only communication so I need to get something quickly. We are in a small town and don't have any mobile phone shops, but we have an Argos and I wondered if I could get something there?

I can't even get in contact with him to let him know what has happened. He might not even notice seeing as he uses the phone so seldom, but it would be just like the thing if he needed it.
