Just moved to GB Energy from Spark Energy. All went as advised - saving £60 a month. Website looks a bit bare, and am unsure if they want meter readings from me on a monthly basis. Moved purely on money saving as Spark were great - however am not so amused at how slow they are in paying me money they owe me. Sypplied Spark and GB Energy with gas & elec meter readings for transfer day - 22/8. Reminded GB on 25/8 that they need to tell Spark what final readings are. Spark says it will still take up to 28 days to generate final bill- which I know will show a credit of nearly £200, and then I will have to await a paper bill to show this , I will then have to phone to say how I want this reimbursment done - and they then take 28 days to pay that. So, over 2 months to sort a couple of keyboard strokes!!! In today's digital age, time scales for this sort of thing should be in up to 5 days at worst rather than months.0

I made a switch for dual fuel from N-power to Extra Energy in April this year via MSE. I waited for some communication from them to say that the switch was progressing and waited and waited.................. One month went by, two months, and not a single communication from them either by post or e-mail. I checked my bank statement and found they had been taking the agreed amount monthly from the time of the switch. I tried to log in to their website but I didn't have an account number and was unable to do this. I sent them an e-mail asking for my account number and received an automated reply saying they would contact me shortly: they didn't. I tried to phone them on their 0800 number but after fifteen minutes with no response other than a list of options I gave up. Tried again the following day with the same result .
Sent another e-mail asking for account details, outlining my inability to contact them and saying if they didn't reply I would switch to another supplier. Again received the same automated reply and again with no further response.
So I have recently switched to GB Energy and what a contrast! They immediately sent an e-mail Welcome Pack explaining what they would be doing and have kept me informed of progress with further e-mails.
I fail to see how an outfit like Extra Energy can survive for long.0 -
Extra Energy is a waste of time.
I have been on a fixed contract since last November.
They have been taking funds from my bank account but not once issued a statement.
I have given them accurate readings to no avail.
I always get fobbed off.
If I was not in a contract I would have left a long time ago.
Keep clear of this company......0 -
Appreciate I am a bit of a lone voice here, but we joined Extra Energy in April 2014 and have had no problems. DD of £68/month, submitted readings online every 6 months and received first bill by e-mail July this year (but bill dated April 2015).
They proposed raising our DD to over £100(!) which is my only disappointment, but I called them (10 minute wait) and we agreed on a figure of £72/month which is about right for our usage.
So in short I'm happy to stay with them and our fixed price tariff expires at the end of September (notified by EE by e-mail on 16th August). Their Bright Fixed Price Nov 2016 is actually cheaper than our current tariff but would tie us in for 14 months. Uswitch & Energy Helpline both suggest the Fixed Price 2016 is the second cheapest available for our usage - GB Energy is slightly cheaper but a variable tariff.
Given current falling oil prices, what are people's views on a variable vs fixed contract for the next 14 months?0 -

This might help, just be careful who you switch to - frying pan and fire comes to mind.

Thanks for the reply, interesting article. I'm happy to stick with Extra Energy all things being equal, have not had any problems with them to date (and appreciate I have probably been lucky reading the posts here!)
I'm just slightly wary of fixing until Nov 2016 (with any company) with oil prices seemingly on the decline at the moment.
I do vaguely recall a requirement was going to be brought in that elec companies would be obliged to let customers know if they were not on the cheapest tariff (i.e. with that same company) - not sure whether it actually happened or not though! EE's exit fee is "only" £25, so perhaps worth risking going with a fixed deal again for now...0 -

I stayed with EE for only 8 months because of their very poor service then went back to EDF, they let me know if I am on the cheapest tariff not only with them but they also flag up cheaper tariff's with other company's.Holding back the years...0 -
CHEAPEST FIX: E.ON
Fixed 1 Year Collective Sept 2015 Online | Fixed for 12 months
15 Days, 11 Hours, 4 Minutes left with £ 30 cash back
but EE are still cheaper no cash back tho . . . .
I think if a don't have to talk or deal with there pants customer services team I may just stay with them loo0l0 -
Extra Energy should be removed from Martins Money Saving Forum as they are completely fraudulent. They owe me £193 since switching from them in March 2015. They have acknowledged this in emails to me but failed to pay up despite utilising Martins "Resolver" facility.
They are a public disgrace and their licence to operate as an energy supplier should be revoked.0 -
