To be fair she didn't ask for any monetary/gift help - it was just people on here being generous. I knew I was about to buy an Easter Egg to take to the shelter's collection so decided to send it direct to someone in need instead.
  • I've spent the whole morning reading the entire thread, certainly beats work! :rotfl:

The thread was quite gripping, but certainly took a surprise twist a few pages back.

99% of posts was simply help and advice, so if someone else does come along there is a full thread to read that may help them sort their problems. I was taken aback at the information, kindness and problem solving nature of the MSE peeps here.

Christ knows what's gone on since, good or bad, but if nothing else it was a nice advert for Christians Against Poverty!
  • followed this thread with interest. It might be best to assume that the op was genuine and in need, but now she's sorted herself out she's just moved on and is busy with life. Some people just don't actually think much about how their moans and crys for help are upsetting other people, those that they are off loading on to. I think it would have been nice of her to pop back and just let people know she is back on track.

Ive been subject to this in real life...friend constantly moaning that the kids have holes in their shoes, theres no food in the cupbards, there is unpaid bills. I got myself in a state of worry, not just for her but the children. Was constantly racking my brains to find a way of helping the family out, trying to give sound advice to her as a friend. Then what...she dissappears of the scene for a few days, and guess what, they are on holiday!!!!

I've just read the thread, and I must say you are all lovely, lovely people trying to help her.
However, the thing to me that sticks out like a sore thumb is the change in grammer/vocabulary/spelling etc on her posts. All of a sudden there were comma's, fullstops, capital letters etc.
It looks to me as if another person is writing the latter posts.
    Call me old and cynical...............................
It's a shame in this world that we all have to be so wary of helping others.

Perhaps she took him back, told him about the site and he tried to carry on the 'situation'

To all those thinking this was a scam, the OP won't have really got a great return on time invested in posting on this forum.

Why is everybody so cynical and judgemental? This is an online forum. She seems to have been very thankful in the past and everybody is judging her because she isn't logging in every day. Did the people who helped her do it because they genuinely wanted to help, or did they just want to feel good in their own skin and now are annoyed because they didn't get the response they expected?

I think it is plainly obvious this woman was in need. To all those who helped her, well done you. You don't need constant updates or thank yous etc... to confirm what you already know - you did a good thing that most likely changed someone's life, or at least brightened up their day, even if it is 'just' an easter egg or 'just' a card.

Some people on this board are pathetic and it disgusts me to see how people are reacting to somebody not being online enough. Get over yourselves.

One of her last posts, using comparably good grammar, was going on about how she was in a physically abusive relationship and she went into detail about what her husband/partner (I can't remember which sorry) wouldn't allow her to do. So yes, I don't know if you are old, but I am going to call you cynical.

I will be blunt, and I hope I dont offend anyone.

I dont think it as appropriate for those who sent money and gifts to mention it on the thread.
There was no need for it when we have a perfectly good PM system, and it wouldn't surprise me if Natalie was horribly embarrassed by it.

A gift should be given freely with no strings, and it shouldn't mean that the recipient is obliged to become friends, or obliged to continue updates.

    Also..
If somebody asks for advice they are not under any obligation to take it.

    Maybe it was a scam?
We have no way of knowing, but you cant very well send gifts against the advice of the forum support team and then complain about it!

One thing is for sure.. If this poor girl is ever desperate again she will have been put right off asking for help and so will others!

On the internet, never give anything you care about losing, be it your time, money or emotion. You can never be sure who is behind each keyboard.

I hope the OP isn't put off from posting by the recent posts. I equally hope that anyone in a similar situation isn't put off from posting because they worry they won't be believed.

To be blunt there would have been no need to mention any gifts on the thread if the OP had, had the courtesy to respond to the PMs from the kind people who had sent something, manners and common courtesy costs nothing.
Its not that we have more patience as we grow older, its just that we're too tired to care about all the pointless drama ;)
