  • I don't know if this has been mentioned already but cash for clothes pay £5 per 10kg bag of clothes and shoes http://www.cash4clothes.co.uk/ You could get a lot more for your stuff on ebay but of course that does take time and money for postage. Good luck
  • Lots of people get things from the freecycle type sites and then sell them on. I haven't read the whole of the posts, but if someone is concerned about buying toilet paper, I find it hard to believe they're that hard up - it's hardly a vital necessity - water comes out of the tap freely and is far more efficient at cleaning!

I'm sorry, daffodiltulip - but for most of us, toilet paper is a necessity not a luxury. It doesn't HAVE to be the posh stuff - there's lots of cheapie ones available in the main supermarkets.

Maybe an adult living alone can manage using a cloth with water, BUT you can't expect a child to use the same method.

We all have our individual priorities in life ................ sometimes, I can't get my head around some of the things that my daughter buys - and she can't always understand why I choose some of the things that I do :undecided.

If I've misunderstood your post, then I'm sorry - I've taken what you posted as it seemed at first reading'.

My eldest is now 40 - I learned that 'flattened roll trick' as soon as he was wiping his own bum :rotfl:.

In my 'really skint days' - when my three were very small and ex-hub was out of work - I've also had to go into public toilets and came out with half a roll stuffed inside my handbag :o.

Still can't get out of the habit of 'taking my fair share' of sugars/sweeteners/sauce sachets .................. - it IS only 'my fair share' as I don't actually take sugar myself, but my OH does - HONEST ;).

    Hi Nat
I have been following this thread quietly, you are doing an amazing job, and you should be very proud of your self love.

Things will get better, just hang on in there, you're a great mum and your on track, it just seems the track is hard to go down at the moment, it will get easier.

Try these people for a grant, especially given your circumstances when the relationship broke down, I have known them help people in the past-please just try them?

You may need to be referred, ask the CAB to do that.

As for loo roll-you both need it! Cheap as chips will do the job!
Visit the public loo's and any in supermarkets/ department stores and take a wad home in your bag-needs must.
I did that in my very skint days many moons ago.

    Take care xxxxxx

Firstly, I'll agree that I find it hard to believe that someone can't afford to buy toilet paper, as there are enough organisations out there to help with money or supplies. Even at that, if you went out on a walk you'll find enough money on your journey from the ground to buy that.
If someone is really in that bad of a situation, you will be out morning noon and night looking money and help. Not sitting back and waiting for money to appear in your account and see what happens come this day and that day. Things aren't that bad if someone doesn't have to do that.

HOWEVER to say it is not a necessity:eek: I really hope that's a joke!! It IS a necessity, and water is not useful. It's called HYGIENE.

We need to remember that when you've had a relationship go badly wrong, it can leave you without much self-esteem and totally destroy your motivation .............. I've been there myself and can vouch for that. Added to that, a feeling that you've been abandoned by your family - the very people who should be helping you to make a fresh start - can lead to social isolation.

The op is trying her hardest to 'hold it together' for the sake of her young son and is bound to feel despondent at times. If you read the full thread, you'll see that she DID have a job to go back to, but her health/emotional condition meant that her GP didn't think it was a good idea at the time.

The town centre where she lives in is in serious decline with a lots of closing down shops and social poverty - there'll be precious little money to be found on the pavements.

Edited to add - it's also against the whole ethos of Freegle/Freecycle to get things from those who donate and to then sell them on for profit. Occasionally, people will advertise 'suitable for car booting' but, in my opinion, that's the only time when it's ethically correct to do that - and even then, I'd only do it for Charity Fund-raising.
