Its good for those who spend a lot a week, ie a large family and have a big car, but for someone like me who only spends £40 per week and I only put in 15L a week, its no good. Its a bit of an exclusive offer really.

So once a month you can put 60l in and save about 6p per liter. How is that 'exclusive'?
  • Noticed this on the pay at pump earlier when it asked if I wanted to use my 2p/litre saving.

Problem is that Tesco is always more expensive for petrol anyway so a 2p/litre saving will simply bring them in line with ASDA, in which case the only benefit will be the accrual of clubcard points.

It's accumulative. WHich is a boon for us singlies who barely spend a tenner a week in Tesco.....the old system was quite discriminatory!
Still have a 15 mile-plus journey to the nearest Tesco fuel spot....so it's a case of, 'planning'..and filling up when I have to be in the vicinity for other reasons?
No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......

Despite my earlier scepticism, on the face of it it is a better deal for someone like me, who spends £20 a week in Tesco, and the rest in B&M and Farmfoods, it means I can actually accumulate enough to get 2p off: I've never managed to spend £50 to get the 5p off coupon.

(Yes, you need to spend £50 to get 2p off now, before £50 in one go got you 5p)
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

If you use 'Pay at Pump' you'll be offered the chance to use your discount or carry it forward a while longer when you put in your Clubcard. No complications, no logging into account - just a few extra pence saved :))
    What's not to like??

(Unfortunately the 20 mile drive to my nearest ASDA petrol station means that's not an economic option...)

OK So you can use pay at the pump and still claim your discount. I have never used pay at the pump before. Didn't know that

Yes. Just make sure you scan your Clubcard before filling.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

I shop at Tesco regularly, but didn't often buy their fuel as Asda was normally cheaper. However, now have a Tesco Credit card plus this fuel deal makes them the better choice. Not much point saving 2p a litre if they are 2p a litre more expensive than Asda, but combine the cc and the money off, and I'm saving 5p a litre regularly against Asda price, plus double points as well. Its much better having it automatically added to yoru club card account.

I go into Tesco and spend £10, probably once every 10 days or so (14-21 sometimes). So to spend £50 I'd have to do an "annual stock up of things I really don't need", to go and get 2p/litre off ....

    Tesco .... stick it.

EDIT: I just looked up my Tesco price, £1.35/litre, compared to £1.28/litre at a closer fuel station.

Joe Horner's got it. Give them £50 for your shopping, they give you 2p off per litre. Fill up from empty, with his 70 litres, will save you £1.40. Say £130.9 per litre - that's £91.63. Take off the 2p per litre and it's £90.23.
You drive away with a full tank of petrol and £50 of groceries, leaving Tesco with £140.23.
Profit on petrol for filling stations is pretty poor anyway, but they'll have made plenty on you with the grocery shop you just did...
Blindly doing this deal doesn't take account of the cost of the groceries, or the cost of the fuel, at any other outlets.

what about the cost of your time?

If you shop at asda and buy the same branded stuff as you were going to be in tescos you'll probably save £3-£5.
