Yep, but what ABARKIE was trying to determine was whether or not it was possible to check-in on the 7th day prior to departure but before the scheduled departure time. So for instance, flying back at 4pm in 7 days, check-in is open in the morning today. If this is consistently the case it should help out the people traveling for a week.
It was the case for me in late April too. I could check in first thing in the morning 7 days before departure, even though my flight wasn't until 20:20 BST.

I wonder if they might occasionally let people check in even earlier than that. Before, the 15 days time-limit was more like a 3-week limit in my experience.

You are right, this does seem to be the case.

I checked in for my flight on the morning of the seventh day prior to it - the flight is 630am on the 14th and upon attempting to check in, a message came up to say "this is not available until 0001am on the 7th."

I too booked my flights for August before the rules changed. I checked a while ago how much the allocated seating would be and it was £15 for premium and £10 for standard. Decided to take a chance and not bother. Just been on ryan air and the prices have come down to £10 and £5 so I have now booked seats. It might be worth checking your bookings. £5 each for 4 of us didn't seem so bad.

Does the 7 day rule apply even if you booked before 8th April ?

Yes, that's why there are disgruntled people on this thread.

Lets be honest. There were disgruntled folk even when they were flying to Dublin and Beauvaise for 1p.
They have relaxed hand luggage, free allocated seating, reduced other fees, quiet night flights, improved the website, but still people complain.

Oh, and they fly from your local airport. Remember when Thomson and Airtours used to charge you a £150pp supplement to fly from Edinburgh, Glasgow etc etc

    Totally agree.

Also remember when you could only get a flight once a week, so all of these 4 day trips were out the window. Everything was priced up as going from Gatwick, then you had surcharges on top for other airports.

We are all a bit spoilt now.

Yup, those of us with long memories remember flying to Europe before the days of Ryanair.
It was an expensive cartel designed to suit airlines rather than passengers.
City breaks were a very pricey way of having a dirty weekend.:D
