User error or not, the issue could have been avoided with a paper ticket which was my point.
User error can happen with a paper boarding pass, for example losing it or forgetting to bring it. Such events are much less likely with a mobile boarding pass.

Of course it can, which is why I usually try to bring both.

Wake up one morning about 5 days into the holiday.

Head is buzzing.Still mullahed from the night before. Wife and kids are already up and having fun in the pool.

Stagger downstairs to reception.Ask to be directed to the computer linked to a printer available to everyone.Head is still buzzing.

Locate computer and, through the alcoholic fog, check in and print out boaring passes. Takes about 10 minutes.Could do it in 5 if wasn't mullahed.

Go back to room and have a shower.Try to sober up.Walk down to pool area with a look that says nothing untoward has been happening.

Missus gives you the eveil eye. Tell her you've sorted out the return flight, boarding passes are printed off and everyting is cushty.

Enjoy the rest of your holiday knowing you're UNTOUCHABLE.

Missus still finds a reason to have a go at you.

Fall asleep thinking who gives gives a toss,!!!!!!!! to everyone and Jesus H.Christ doesn't anyone give me any credit any more.

    Wake up feeling happy.

    Make a bacon sarnie.

Not a bad old life is it ?

Repeat for the rest of the holiday.

Special assistance passengers take note - you can get around the 7 day check in if you ring special assistance As you can't select where you sit due to airline rules they will assign you a suitable seat for free and then you can print out your boarding passes before you go without having to cough up an extra £5 to select a seat. This also applies to 1 companion travelling with you. I know this doesn't help everyone but it may help a few.

How exact are the timings for 7 days

I have booked flights for elderly relatives - over 75 and no computer experience - I always check in for them and take them to the airport.

For the latest journey they are flying out on on 7th May at 2pm outward ( one way booking)

Return 14th at 10am, to a different airport, hence a totally seperate booking - could you check in on 7th at 9am and avoid the charge?

    Thanks for any help

    Hi

    Just updating

Checked in this morning for the flights on 14th May without a charge

That's because it's within the 7 days of your flight. You will have to check in for your return flight while you're away.

Read the quoted bit in the post above yours, the return flight is on May 14 and that's the one they've checked in for.

So it's still within the 7 days of the flight which is why there was no charge

Yep, but what ABARKIE was trying to determine was whether or not it was possible to check-in on the 7th day prior to departure but before the scheduled departure time. So for instance, flying back at 4pm in 7 days, check-in is open in the morning today. If this is consistently the case it should help out the people traveling for a week.
