So two new accounts will mean two credit credit searches. So if this is the thing that will put you off then consider just upgrading it rather than open the existing one. But you also gain from keeping them all open as you have more containers to dump your cash with high interest rate instant access.
I believe it's just ID and anti-money laundering checks unless you apply for an overdraft. Those checks do not create an impression on your file.

I'm not all that convinced that credit searches for current accounts really have that much effect if your credit file is alright. I'm a student and have opened 5 current accounts in the last few weeks without issue. As soon as TSB email me to tell me my first Plus is open (I had to go to branch to show ID), I will then open another one. I don't expect a problem.

I guess this will be different if you have issues with your credit file though.

Herbalus, my posting is to inform the forum.

Any credit check will be seen by the lender even the insurance quotation. The only searches which is guaranteed will not be seen by the lender is the search by you.

For masonic, I did not apply for an overdraft as for a foreseeable future I will not benefit from it, unless they offer me a free overdraft, I will be able to use it for stoozing.

Regarding whether it will have effect on your ability to get credit, I will say it will depend on the bank and the person who will be making the decision. I am speaking from personal experience, not a speculation.

You are very wrong, as you've been told before.

I'm not sure why you keep perpetuating this?

Went to my local (totally empty) branch today only to be told that they have just one account opener and that they're not in all week.

Instead applied online when I got home and was accepted immediately and have internet banking access already. Woo!
  • I've been told this as well. Apparently if checks go through automatically these searches are not seen, but if someone manually looks at it, they are.

If you set up the permitted two TSB Classic Plus accounts, can you fulfil the funding requirement with two £500 S/Os set between the two TSB accounts on the same day, or do the funds have to arrive from an external source?

If the latter is it recommended to initially fund with £2000 or £2500? (to then S/O back and forward to/from another provider). I am unclear if a balance over £2000 will mean zero interest for that time, or if they will only pay interest on the first £2000:

    The T&Cs state:

Credit interest Calculated daily from when you open or upgrade to a Classic Plus account (or if that day is not a working day, the next working day). Payable:
    - on the first working day of each month
    - on the first £2,000 in your account.

    However the main website says:

"We do not pay interest on balances above £2,000."

I currently have a Premier Enhance account and I tweeted TSB to see if the 'enhance' bit can be swapped for 'plus' but apparently not. I also have a classic account but see no option in internet banking to upgrade and when I apply for an additional account it doesn't give me the option of choosing Classic or Classic Plus? Can anyone advise?

They'll only pay no interest on the excess balance.

I couldn't apply via online banking, but using the link above has worked, and the account has been linked to my online banking.

Is it possible to apply for the second account in the same way, straight away?
