Is it normal to not be credit checked when opening these accounts?

I've banked with tsb for two years. Opened first TSB Plus account in May, filled that and opened a second in July. Checked noodle August no search so checked experian yesterday and still no search?

I wasn't credit checked when opening Lloyds, Halifax and BOS credit cards, as an existing customer. Despite all they're doing to differentiate themselves, TSB is still basically the same as Lloyds.
  • This might be a really stupid question but is it worth opening this account if I don't have £2000 to keep in there? I would have enough going in but I would be paying out direct debits etc from here and as I'm still paying debts off I have no spare money to keep in a bank.I did try opening the Halifax account that gives you £100 but got declined.

if you don't have £2k to keep in the account, you won't earn the interest on the £2k, so yes it would be a stupid idea

You still get 5% on what you do have in there though, so no, not a stupid idea! Whether they'll let you open one when you've been declined by Halifax is another story though....

I had a tsb account recently(closed it last month as it happens as I wasn't using it) so would hope that I wouldn't have any problems getting accepted.

EDIT-I went ahead and applied and it was opened online straight away.

Unfortunately I don't think it works that way, the account opening process involves a credit check (and other internal scoring criteria), which aren't usually conducted for an existing account, so effectively I think you'd be treated as an entirely new applicant on the merits of your current financial status.

Edit: now irrelevant after update of previous post!

But you get the interest on what is in there and you get the account before tsb withdraw the offer.

    NOT stupid idea at all.

I wonder if bf will get credit checked when he opens second plus, first plus was his first time with tsb so only has been a customer a few months. Will be great if he isn't. Trying to keep searches down for mortgage application.
