Stars when seller pays too much for postage

Had three instances of this recently....

Bought items with postage costs in the £5 - £6 bracket.

When they arrived the postage they paid was in line with what they charged me.

However, they used too big a box and could have easily saved £2 - £3 by sending as a small rather than medium parcel.

Would you mark them down for postage costs?

    No that's incredibly harsh.

No, the postage they charged was what they paid for it.

But if I was that bothered about the postage, I would have bought from someone who was charging small parcel rate, who obviously had a smaller box to hand.

It's a price you agreed to pay and the price the seller actually paid....they haven't made a profit on the postage.

Exactly.... and also the problem.... I could have had my item cheaper but they have decided to give the potential saving to Royal Mail and eBay (via their % on postage).

A message to the seller would let them know for the next time they sell an item.

Low stars doesn't help anyone in this situation, and just shows you up to be spiteful - in my opinion.

    Leave whatever stars you like.

Did they include in the P&P the price of the box? If not, would you have been happier if they had gone out, bought a smaller box and then added that price to the P&P rather than giving you a box for free? Would you mark people down for using stamps they bought at a 5% discount from Costco rather than from the PO too if you knew they did it?

Seems to me, you were happy with the price charged (otherwise you wouldn't have bid), they made no profit on the postage and provided the service they said they would (technically, with FVF they probably lost money) and yet you still want to mark them down. Sounds vindictive and totally unnecessary to me.

Come on people, it's not difficult: lose means to be unable to find, loose means not being fixed in place. So if you have a hole in your pocket you might lose your loose change.

But you were happy with the overall price...seems spiteful OP

Don't worry no sellers were harmed in the creation of this thread...

Just wondering what people's views are.

It just seems mad paying out up to twice as much as is needed.
It can also give a false impression of the size of the purchase if bidders think it's going to be medium parcel sized.

You're actually, as a buyer, measuring the individual parcels you receive, to check whether or not they should be small or medium parcels ......?!?!?!?!

Well when you are a business seller as well you have the postal costs and sizes in mind all the time.

A box that is mainly filled with newspaper when not needed to protect fragile items and is just too big to be classed as a small parcel just seems mad.
