Maybe the seller had a job lot of boxes and uses them regardless.

However, you could go back to them and point out that they are over-paying for postage; they might even thank you!

Yes, good point. What people don't realise is, if they charged you only MINIMUM WAGE and not even petrol for an hour going out to find an cheaper box, would you be willing to pay it?

It's not "postage" though is it? It's postage and packing, and not to forget eBay charge 10% on it and Paypal also charge you 3.5% on the postage.

Unless you are prepared to buy everything on ebay yourself the argument is a waste of time. Buyers can judge how they feel about paying for all the rest of the add on items.

We should be careful about reassuring new sellers that it is perfectly OK to load their postage costs when just 3 or 4 'neutral' stars will in future be likely to cost them their account if they really are a small seller

Well there's (a small part) of the difference in outlook and perspective. You are trying to stop new sellers falling into traps and pit-falls starting out selling, and I'm trying to help buyer rate sellers with understanding how much things really cost, with "time" being the most expensive.

As P&P stars will no longer form the basis of seller ratings, this is all soon to become academic.

Yes I was happy to pay the postage quoted because I was under the mistaken impression that it was justified by the size and weight of the articles I was bidding on.

Let's say you phone up a taxi firm and ask for a price to go to an address you don't know and they say £20 which you agree to.

The taxi driver has provided the service at the price agreed and everyone's happy...

Now, what if you get a different taxi home and they take a much quicker route and only charge you £10.

Are you still as happy with the first taxi firm?

mmmm maybe when you call the taxi firm you should get a route plan for the journey from the taxi firm. Then the taxi firm has the opportunity to refuse your custom.

Also as per your ebay question maybe you should ask for a full cost brake down of the postage and the package weight, size and packaging material used. then the seller has the opportunity to ban you.

This line of thought in the original op's question comes from a very very small minority of buyers, however there are a lot more buyers that think items should be wrapped in solid steel box's to withstand any abuse possible via the postal system.

I much prefer the buyers that pay for there item, they get there item and its job done and that's all they expect.
  • They paid what they charged you so they have been fair.

I wouldn't mark them down normally and often advise them for future sales.

I would read your advice and then place you directly on to my blocked bidder list
