Stars when seller pays too much for postage

I did once get something which the seller had sent packet rate when it could easily have gone large letter. I emailed her to tell her and she thanked me profusely as someone else was doing her posting for her and she had wondered if they were sending stuff at the right rate.'Never argue with an idiot. I am taken aback by the vitriol of some of the responses to this thread.
….and the ganging up.Do it if you want but we are all in agreement that it makes you seem small, petty and spiteful.
The OP asked a question – ‘What would you do?’ And rather than answer it, some posters here have used it as an excuse for character assassination.
MSE. All human life is here.:eek:arghhh!!!0 -
Why not answer the question rather than dishing out insults?
Lots of people in this thread need to look at the top of their computer screen and look at what site they are on....
On mine it says Moneysavingexpert.com
Think some people ought to be on Money Wasting.Com :rotfl:
I've seen the 'well it is a money saving site' comment several times on the forum as a whole, usually trying to justify some completely over the top actions to save a couple of pennies.
Yes, it is a money saving site, but I think people need to be reasonable about it, and not become obsessive about it all.
It would have been nice if the item the OP ordered had been in a smaller box, and small parcel rate was charged.
But it was in a larger box and medium parcel rate was charged. I think the OP needs to accept it, maybe order from a different seller next time, and move on with their life.Early retired - 18th December 2014
If your dreams don't scare you, they're not big enough0 -
I would just be thankful that the seller packaged the item so that it arrived safely.
I don't know what the item was but, what would your feelings be if they'd used smaller packaging to save on overall costs and, as a result, the item got damaged in transit???0 -
This is why I am going more and more for "free postage".
I fail to understand how people can see a postage cost, pay it and then get all angry because if they had put the item through a mangle and flattened it then it would have gone as a large letter and saved £1.80.
How dare they waste money on a brand new mail bag and bubble wrap to protect the item in transit and make me pay an extra 30p. 2 starts for postage. That'll show them.0 -

I would not be happy. However, in one instance a box was used that was within the length and width dimensions for a small parcel but the contents including necessary protective packaging would have fitted within the allowed 160 mm height but actually measured 260 mm - the empty space being filled with newspaper.
Just this morning I received a package which was basically lots of plastic parts stuffed into a postal bag making for a very irregular shaped parcel. It could have been put in a small parcel sized box with room for packing. As it was the shape made it into a medium parcel. In this instance it was the buyer that was out of pocket.
Seems strange that we can mark sellers down for delivery time (even though it should be for speed of dispatch) but can't directly rate the way items are packed.0 -

Only those who don't understand mark sellers down for delivery.
The way the item is packed is relevant, if a seller sends a crystal item in a jiffy bag I'd neg them for being stupid and whilst I understand it's a waste of money to pay for parcel that could be smaller, if all these sellers get marked down, they'll be gone, so will their listings and you'll only be left with the professional type. Choice will be reduced, prices will rise.
Two sides to eBay, deal with a professional business where you'd expect them to know what is what and dealing with private sellers where you'll get a range of experience and knowledge. All part of shopping on eBay really. In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0 -
As the seller paid in postage costs exactly what was stated in the listing, I believe they deserve 5 stars.
They were not seeking to profit or deceive & just because some ebayer's are a bit more savvy regarding packaging items for sending, or using a courier versus Royal Mail, it doesn't mean that a naive seller should have to bear the brunt of a buyer's annoyance by having their stars trashed due to their lack of knowledge. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
Maybe the seller didn't have any smaller boxes, and would of had to buy a smaller one to post .....and then passed the extra cost onto you by overcharging.
To leave them less stars because they used a bigger box is spiteful...and by calling you spiteful is not abusing you but just describing your actions IF you were to mark his stars down knowing that it could harm their account.
l would rather a seller that sent a well packaged item that got to me in one piece and didn't make one penny of profit in postage, than one that made a few quid by overcharging purposely, but that said i have no qualms about someone making an extra profit if they can especially as i have always agreed postage by buying the item in the first place.0
