Barclaycard World MasterCard (Ex Egg Money) Being Replaced with Amex + Visa Combo

I currently use the Amex 1.25% cashback card with the Barclaycard 1% card for those places that don't take the Amex card. I too have applied for the Amazon card and was accepted in 60 seconds. I'll use the new card to get my £15 and then let it lie dormant until August. This is because when I phoned them they said that I would lose my present cashback (£75) if I closed my account now, before my anniversary date in August.
I spoke to a chap on the sub-continent about all of this and I don't know whether he was being deliberatly obtuse or simply didn't understand. He couldn't seem to get his head around the fact that my present Amex card paying 1.25% was better then the Barclaycard/Amex 1% and that the Amazon 2/1% (albeit in vouchers) was better than the Barclaycard Visa 0.5%
i suspect he just didn't understand. they are consistently nice but hopeless in my experience. it really is not worth persevering.0 -

what is the deal with this? you have to spend £300 on the new card & then they'll credit you with £15 as a funny little 5% intro bonus? i wonder why they've bothered:think: Do we have to wait until the annual cashback is paid to collect that?
fwiw i don't think the Amazon card looks very appealing at all.

as it happens i tend to use MBNA for balance transfers, so would rather spend with another provider.0 -

Can I suggest to you that you express your issue with my statements with words of your choosing, rather than repeating parts of my statement with:think: :rotfl: or a :T .

It was only a matter of time, but the new cards look like a poor substitute. The other cash back cards I've got all offer better (Luma 4%, Halifax 2%, Cap One 1%).
As soon as the I've spent my cashback it's good bye Barclaycard, can't even be bothered to wait for the £15, an insufficient bribe.
Egg disappearing was a very sad day, still remember their 6% fixed rate instant access saving account with great fondness, when rates were plunging elsewhere.... It's probably what bankrupt them.0 -

Shame to read all this. I haven't received a letter yet, but I carry both the High 5 card and the World card. I use the high 5 for any large transactions, plus any small transactions, and then the world for everything in between. There's no chance they've ever made any money out of me. I wonder how they pull the high 5, if I've already been issued with an Amex and Visa card - send me another pair? :think:0
