I currently use the Amex 1.25% cashback card with the Barclaycard 1% card for those places that don't take the Amex card. I too have applied for the Amazon card and was accepted in 60 seconds. I'll use the new card to get my £15 and then let it lie dormant until August. This is because when I phoned them they said that I would lose my present cashback (£75) if I closed my account now, before my anniversary date in August.
I spoke to a chap on the sub-continent about all of this and I don't know whether he was being deliberatly obtuse or simply didn't understand. He couldn't seem to get his head around the fact that my present Amex card paying 1.25% was better then the Barclaycard/Amex 1% and that the Amazon 2/1% (albeit in vouchers) was better than the Barclaycard Visa 0.5%0 -

I will persist as a zero interest user. I intend to take the £15 bonus plus my existing earned cash back. After that, a zero purchase user unless for emergencies/ tile grouting.
The BWMC concept was much appreciated and well run.

They can only give an instant decision during office hours - it says:Please note that if you have applied outside the hours of 9am - 5pm Monday to Friday, we are unable to give you an instant decision and therefore you should expect to hear from us in under 2 weeks.0 -
Still showing 2% & 1% here

I too have recieved the letter and complained to Barclaycard that this is unfair. The fact that they won't offer a like for like replacement rather than can't is unfair. I am also concidering taking this to the regulator as a breach of T&C for my current casback deal. Anybody any idea if this unfair change is legal?
Why wouldn't it be legal? Arrangement like cashback can be changed providing notice is given. The 1% from the old Egg money days has lasted a remarkably long time.0 -
Same here, but it looks like they've pulled it this afternoon, the 'Loyalty points rules' now only show 1% and ½% instead of 2% and 1%.
Is this something else that's been pulled? I can't see any reference to a £15 bonus on the site linked to; maybe it'll be in the letter?
I've had the Amazon card for a couple of years and only get 0.5%/1%
I too am an original egg customer and have also received the letter. Will take the £15 and then get a new card.
Probs get the virgin one for the bonus miles as I fly with them anyway0 -
If they migrate cards with an annual fee, I expect they will also have to refund the current year's annual fee. Unless the reduced cashback only takes effect from the next anniversary date.
good point, i like it. for what it's worth, once you can get through to someone in England, i find Barclaycard CS fairly amiable. i can imagine them being prepared to flex on the fee. £24 on the 'High5', i believe.0
