Those of you that are used to using an AMEX Card will also be used to carrying a separate VISA or MASTERCARD to use in those places that do not accept AMEX. All straight forward so far.
Last Sunday I attempted to use my new Barclaycard AMEX card at a well known supermarket automated check out. The transaction was rejected so being in a hurry I paid with a debit card instead.
Later the same day I attempted to buy rail tickets online. My Barclaycard AMEX card was again rejected so I decided to use the Barclaycard VISA. You've guessed it - this too was rejected! I successfully used my Halifax Clarity Card. The following day I telephoned Barclaycard who could offer no explanation - but they did indeed confirm that they had blocked my account as a result of the failed supermarket transaction. This episode is now the subject of a complaint. So, if you're thinking that by carrying Barclaycard AMEX and VISA cards you have all bases covered - forget it!! If one card gets blocked - both cards will be locked out - it is afterall just ONE account! To be safe, you still need to carry ANOTHER card as insurance. Oh I do love this 'simplification'!!

Yes, I had that - Amex blocked, Customer Service said the Visa would be fine, it was not!

The first time I used them they didn't work - both cards two separate shops. Apparently the pin was incorrect. I emailed Barclaycard and they called me back. They said there was no record of an incorrect pin being entered at all and perhaps it was the payment terminal!

They kept me on the phone for 20 mins whilst they constantly put me on hold only to come back and tell me there was no record of an incorrect pin. I ended up getting the ars*, asking them if they thought I was lying and thank you for wasting 20 mins of my life for something that could have been done over secure messaging. I got £30 as a sorry!

They are working now but I really need to check if I'm getting the double cashback. Is there anywhere on the online account where it gives this info, because I can't find it!

Its different from the Lloyds Amex/MC combo then. The cards operate completely separately when it comes to authorisations, one can be blocked or lost/stolen and the other one will still work (Although you'll still get two new cards if one is lost).

One thing I noticed which might be a bit odd, is the Amex frequently obtains the authorisation code "95". Maybe that is just an Amex thing, but looks very short compared to other cards.

Amex only generally issues 2 digit auth codes in the UK.

Had the same thing. The guy on the helpdesk said it couldn't happen and the cards weren't locked despite being rejected by shop terminals, couldn't convince him otherwise, I just reported the card damaged to get it re-issued.

    Joke.

Has anyone else had trouble accessing your new cashback account on the Barclaycard online site? Since my World MasterCard was replaced with an AmEx and a Visa I've not been able to access my transactions or statements even though my Barclaycard Freedom and Classic card accounts are still showing in my online service.
I've just finished my fourth call to Barclaycard and the operative told me today that lots of people have complained about the same problem and they've no idea how long it'll take to fix.
Is anyone else having this issue and is there a any explanation? I've had to request paper statements in the mean time.

Yes - I have the same problem, had it for about a month now.

Currently getting a .5% mastercard cc, this transfer to amex has been a complete mess and I can't be bothered to wait around for them to fix the latest issue. Nothing can take a month to fix if you really are looking at it and taking it seriously.

I asked Barclaycard to give me the date that my current card will expire. They replied that they couldn't say.

Whomever has programmed the system apparently hasn't told the company how it works.

    Bloody unbelievable.
