Correct. The first time I can understand for security reasons, making me enter my PIN. But the second time as well......i used Amex for a contactless purchase at McDonald's yesterday.
Interesting. I can't say that I have tried to use the contactless feature of my Amex yet. I used it on my old Barclaycard Mastercard many times though. With that said, I always used to take the card out of my wallet and physically place it onto the reader.0 -
Yesterday I sent a secure message asking why I had not been offered the £50 plus six months double cash back bribe. I have just had a reply granting it "as I am such a good customer". Thanks for the heads up folks. Now who can I complain to next..............0

Had Amex refused in B&Q.
There is a whole thread on here somewhere about who does and does not accept amex.
B&Q one of the few big ones who don't, Wilkinsons is another although, strangely enough, Poundland do.I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.0 -

Have you tried using Contactless anywhere else? If it doesn't work at all, then you have a card with a faulty chip. Just call up and they'll send you a replacement.
I had this. Now I have two Amex cards, different card numbers, but same account. I leave the faulty one at home to use for online purchases.0 -
MacD the swipe and go doesn't work on the Amex.
Actually it does work in some. I think McDonalds had one batch of terminals that don't work with Amex contactless, so sometimes it'll even work via contactless at some of the tills in one McDonalds but not at other tills in the same one. Its nothing wrong with the card at all.
Amex contactless doesn't work at Weatherspoons, Clintons, Poundland or Superdrug though as they all use RBS world pay to process their transactions and the Amex contactless application did not use to be put on their terminals by default (It is now though)0 -

Poundland started taking it a year ago, my local 99p store now also accept it as well (Amex now have a special rate for discount stores, making Amex very cheap for them to accept. Probably cheaper than Visa/MC.). You can by mobile B&Q gift cards online with an Amex, so if your buying a lot, do that. I usually just avoid B&Q and go to home base instead though.0 -

I've had the same problem with the World Mastercard in Wetherspoons (more than 1 branch) and you can guarantee it will fail (declined) on a specific terminal when going contactless (chip and PIN works fine).
In my experience there is 1 terminal in each of them where it declines every time.
I did complain to Barclaycard in an attempt to get them at least to investigate (even if it was a terminal problem), but they misunderstood the question and replied with a load of garbage.0 -
Barclaycard are a bit funny with some retailers in my experience - another example is pay at pump transactions. I was told by my local morrisons that barclaycard will not process pay at pump transactions at all and subsequently the card is declined - in this instance it was one of the nuances of Barclaycard.
I have now had my closure statement, followed by a letter a week later to say my account is changing and the cards will be issued in the next few days - talk about joined up thinking!0 -

Morrisons are "whistling through their posterior".
I have had no problem with any Barclay card whilst paying at the pump at any of their locations.
Sounds to me like a local problem that they couldn't be bothered fixing.0
