Have ex egg card (original)' emailed this morning with a complaint and instruction to cancel, less than one hr late had secure message offering £30 and 6 months double cash back, declined this, 30mins later had another message offer increased to £50 and 6months double cash back. Accepted. Very easy
Still plan on cancelling, am going to donate the £50 or equivalent to the trussel trust after the Sunday Mail article :-)0 -
they refused to give me any compensation when I emailed them last time. Just sent an email a month later saying that lots of people are getting compensation. Lets see if they will budge....0

Did you send it through the secure message system? I had no trouble at all getting the £50, really was just 2messages0

secure message complaint, result £50 + double cashback for 6 months0

Saw this thread yesterday at lunchtime, got ex Egg card, secure message complaint, first reply was just blah blah blah, so replied saying I was thinking of cancelling card, next message early this morning from them was offer of £50 & double cashback - RESULT!!0

Dang! I was offered a £15 credit if I spent £300 in the first 3 months as well as the double CB offer via the secure message. I then got a call after I indicated that I still wasn't happy, had a long chat with another guy who the call was escalated to and still didn't get the £50 offer. I must be too nice or something. You win some, you lose some.0

I think its best to deal with these via secure messages, most of the the time when they ring you they try to baffle you with bullsh*t, at least with a secure message you can digest what they are saying and answer it point by point.
I told them I was hard of hearing, they still tried to contact me via phone, the call comes up as "No Caller ID" on my mobile, I just ignored them.0 -

I think that is a good rule of thumb when dealing with any financial institution. At least then you have a record of what is said.
Also, if you have taken the time to write, they should have the courtesy to write back, rather than trying to fob you off with a phone call.
Although others have had the £50 offer + double cashback via phone as well.0 -
Secure message complaint this time. Result: letter saying they'll deal with it in up to three weeks.0

Interestingly I had an email from BarclayCard this afternoon - content below:
*****
We recently wrote to you to let you know about some important changes to your account, and that you'll be moving to the new Barclaycard Cashback.
In about three weeks you'll be receiving your new cards.
• The Barclaycard Cashback American Express® Card that gives you 1% cashback
• The Barclaycard Cashback Visa Card that gives you 0.5% cashback
Both your cards are connected to the same Barclaycard account. And to ensure everything remains as straightforward as possible, the PIN for both your new cards will be the same as your existing one.
There's nothing for you to do now, apart from keeping an eye out for your new cards. You'll be able to start using your cards as soon as they arrive, so make sure you carry them both with you to earn cashback on every £1 you spend.*
Once you receive your new cards, please destroy your old card by cutting it into quarters, ensuring you cut through the chip. Your current card will be deactivated 30 days after your May 2014 statement. Everything you spend on your current MasterCard during this time will be transferred to your new Barclaycard Cashback credit card account, which means you'll benefit from the 1% cashback rate.
*You won't be able to earn cashback on balance transfers or any transactions treated as cash. A non-Sterling transaction fee will be applied to transactions made abroad. Your new Cashback Rules booklet will explain when and where you can earn cashback.
*****
So you could in theory eek out using the mastercard for another 30 days after your may statement, or until it stops working and still earn 1% cashback, and then get the other double cashback offer etc after this. Might be of use for some that are staying with BarclayCard.
NB this is not a customer specific email - and I suspect most/all will receive it in due course.0
