but i actually think you are overly hard on them. i use Amex Cashback most days, without problems. and come July, when my current deal disappears, i will be really pleasantly surprised if there are much better cashback deals available. i am already planning to do without a non-Amex backup and just spend on Amex backed by a debit card, or perhaps a points card of some kind.

and the change is actually driven by regulation...they can't afford to pay out 2% and 4% and make a profit on the deal, going forwards.

I wasn't happy when I received the notification of these changes & was thinking of complaining to them but didn't think it would do any good.

After reading this thread it prompted me to complain & a couple of emails later I too have accepted the double cashback & £50 offer :j

I sent them a message this morning saying I was disappointed, never going to use Amex etc etc... got a call back and I've got the double cashback offer

Think I might go an apply for an Amex now after all and get the 5% for the first £2000 then switch back to the Barclaycard(s) lol

Make sure you squeeze the pips out of the 2% beforehand though... the 5% will still be there in 6 months I'm sure :beer:

Posted my complaint last night, got a call an hour ago, offering the double cashback for six months and £30. I pointed out that £30 was a damn insult and would not come anywhere close to covering the lost services, so they offered the £50. Which I took.

Been with Egg from near the start with the bright green cards, always pay off in full.

So now just don't need to start looking again until around Xmas.

Just out of interest, as many people here are mentioning the old egg cards.

The original Egg Visa was a rather snazzy metallic green - they then went to a bright lime green. The original Egg Money mastercard was a bright blue, before turning black.

That is all, just though I'd reminice a while
