I missed their calls but a few mins later they sent me a message which took me an age to read, but nice surprise at the end, double cashback for 6 months :j:j

Would I be pushing my luck to reject their offer and ask for a goodwill credit too !?!?

I've pushed my luck and I've now got the £50 credit and the six months double cash back.

It's interesting how some people are doing better than others. Possibly as others have said it could be down to the type of card you have, or how long you've been with them. Or maybe it's do to with how much you use the card? I happen to have put about four grand through the card in the last two months, but usually only average around £100 cashback over the year. How does that compare to everyone elses spending?

Or maybe it's simply down to what you write and how well you express yourself. I've always been polite, stated my reasoning, and never demanded anything.

Have to say I'm really quite pleased with Barclaycard. They've always replied well within their stated 24 hour response period - usually same day. I've even had multiple replies per day. And they actually seem to read what I've written rather than just send generic responses. Great service as far as I'm concerned. No idea what they are like on the phone because I've never spoken to them - they have even followed my request not to call me because I prefer the secure-message paper-trail.

The loss of the insurance and warranty benefits is annoying, but I never really thought about them and so probably wouldn't have remembered to use them anyway. I'm happy with the £50 to compensate for the removal.

And the double cashback gets me 1% on the VISA which is the same as I get now on the World MasterCard. So I can continue using that for six months and not lose out whilst I test out the Amex.

I never expected the cashback to last this long once Barclaycard took over from Egg, so for me this is a good result.

    Very happy customer.

    :T

Reject it - they'll come back with a better offer.

I've sent them a message this evening (less than an hour ago) and complained about the so called 'simplification'.
Said that I wasn't happy at the loss of the 1% rate and protection policies (I'm an ex-Egger).

Got a reply within a few minutes offering double cashback 2%/1% for 6 months - which I rejected, citing the temporary nature of the cashback extention and the loss of the protection policies.

Just had another reply adding the £50 goodwill credit as well as the 2%/1% cashback for 6 months, which I've now accepted to close the complaint case.

Not bad for 10 minutes worth of venting :)

You just beat me to it - but I have actually made use of the accidental damage cover a few months ago (the first/only time I've used it since taking out the Egg card in 2005).

We bought a new american style fridge freezer for our new kitchen, paid £1300 on my BC.

A week later, my 4-year old son reversed his ride-on car and put a big dent in the lower doors. The total cost of replacement was around £700 and the accidental damage cover covered the cost once I'd provided receipts to them.

Hang about, I suppose it could be partly my fault for the simplification of the cashback rate and withdrawal of services...

Just got an email about the transfer today - so hopped over here to check what was going on.

I was also an Egg Money card holder - but my email doesn't say anything about a £15 sweetener. Anyone else in the same position?

I don't want two cards so am intending to close this one once cashback is paid (due in next week's statement). Silly Barclaycard.
  • Hi

New here but but sent a message tonight and got the 2% Amex and £50 credit, was an old Egg Money 'Green' customer so not sure if that was the reason why. :)

I am also ex-Egg Money, and I also received this e-mail today, and can confirm that it makes no mention of the £15. This is only mentioned in the postal letter received several days ago.

Since Egg was taken over I switched to using my Tesco Platinum for monthly spends, approx £800-£1000 per month. Would I now be better to start using the Barclaycard Amex or apply for an Amazon card?

Depends whether you use Amazon or not really. If you buy stuff from Amazon regularly, the Amazon card is probably a better bet.

Speaking for myself, I very rarely buy anything from Amazon, so the Amazon card is not all that useful for me. I might even keep the dual-card Barclaycard account!

Yes, I buy quite a lot of stuff from Amazon. I wasn't even aware they offered a cashback card until I read this thread.
