I think this is the first time I've been declined for a card or any form of credit in my life.

sorry about that. perhaps it's because you already have a high limit on an MBNA card? they are usually fairly open.

This is the bit that really peeves me! This statement and their glossy leaflet talk about simplifying, but this is clearly rubbish. Having the extra card means extra admin for them and inconvenience for us, as well as lower cashback. It's nothing to do with simplifying, it's all about costs & profits.

Like many others here, I'm not surprised by the move, but I am very annoyed about the spin they are putting on it.
I expect to be joining the £300 club.
That's exactly what irks me, too - how the heck is TWO cards with differing cashback rates simpler than one card with a flat cashback rate? If it were't so transparant, it'd be funny...

Ah well, I expected this would happen eventually. Most of the places I shop don't accept AMEX, so I'll milk the new setup for the £15, then find an alternative, probably they Amazon one...

The refusal letter just said "We reviewed your application using a credit scoring system which takes into account the details that you have provided, information from the credit reference agency and our own experience."

I already have a MBNA Amex so that could be it although I haven't used it in a while.

    Oh well, no great loss.

Call there reconsiderations department. I've had something similar with MBNA. They just transferred the credit limit off my old card to the new one (which the opened then and there) and closed the old one.

is it just £300 on either/both cards to bag £15?

i suspect the existing MBNA account will be the cause.

good idea. in the past i have called through re. my existing card and discussed this 'in principle' prior to even applying for the new card. leading to a good overall limit to use for Balance Transfers.

It's about spending relating to the Account. The one Account has the two Cards linked to it.
