being able to access the cashback every month has an appeal. im just thinking through whether i can use the Amex BC one as a back up to my Amex CB when i have filled the latter...i dont think so.
i have a feeling that i might make my first debit card purchase in about 10 years before long;)0 -

I don't know - I've not got the letter yet, although I think it's due late next week or early the week following - if there e-mail is correct.
From the sounds of it, there will be an on-line redemption page, where you request it to be credited to you on that month, but that's just what is sounds like.
[re existing cashback]
I'm also keen to find out what will happen to/how they will pay out the existing cashback, which does not seem to have been answered yet.
cash back payment - the printed explanation says you can request online or by phone and it will be paid on your next monthly statement. There is no restriction on the number of months you can do this.
existing cashback - "Any unpaid cashback that you're owed will be credited to your new account".0 -

"Thanks for your message.
May I inform you that we wanted to simplify our existing Barclaycard Cashback account ranges",
This is the bit that really peeves me! This statement and their glossy leaflet talk about simplifying, but this is clearly rubbish. Having the extra card means extra admin for them and inconvenience for us, as well as lower cashback. It's nothing to do with simplifying, it's all about costs & profits.
Like many others here, I'm not surprised by the move, but I am very annoyed about the spin they are putting on it.
I expect to be joining the £300 club.0 -

interesting. i'm slightly surprised they've planned that so well, in the past they've not done so. i hope that means the cashback accrued so far, which was to be paid annually, can be accessed any month:)0 -
Doh! So just a few weeks after losing the aqua card, I'm going to lose my ex Egg Barclaycard! Just hope my Halifax Clarity Card isn't going to be the next one to go!
Like everyone else, I'm going to hang on until I've spent £300 on the new card and then close it all down, take the money and run. I can't be bothered with a card that doesn't have universal acceptability.
Withdrawal of the card is annoying and disappointing, but I can't complain. I haven't paid a penny in credit card interest in at least 10 years and have gained several hundred pounds a year in cashback in that time.
I think I'll go for an Amazon card, which is more or less as good as cash to me, due to kindle books and other shopping.0 -
Hi everyone, just joined-up so I could post in here.
I had an Amazon MC but quit due to MBNA's awful treatment of one of their customers (not allowed to link as a new user but Google: "Credit card borrower tortured by lender, says judge".
So I want nothing further to do with them.
I also have an AMEX with 1%/ double introductory points so I don't need another one.
My Barclaycard MC was useful for retailers/ sites that don't take AMEX e.g. ParentPay, Graze. Such a shame it's not more universally accepted but I guess their fees are high.
I see people here are considering the Santander. Might go for that if their website's good, I like being able to see pending transactions/ lots of features. Is there a good Android app?0 -

I applied for the Amazon card on Friday night and despite having a perfect credit record and being an Amazon Prime member I've just had an email saying that I have been declined.
I think this is the first time I've been declined for a card or any form of credit in my life.0 -

im glad you are not too unhappy. but not paying interest doesn't mean you have been anything other than a great customer for Egg and Barclaycard. every time you make a purchase they make a little slice of profit.0
