Barclaycard World MasterCard (Ex Egg Money) Being Replaced with Amex + Visa Combo

That's exactly what irks me, too - how the heck is TWO cards with differing cashback rates simpler than one card with a flat cashback rate? If it were't so transparant, it'd be funny...
Ah well, I expected this would happen eventually. Most of the places I shop don't accept AMEX, so I'll milk the new setup for the £15, then find an alternative, probably they Amazon one...
You are looking at it from your present position.
They haven't said that taking an account with one card and making it an account with two cards and two different cashback percentages is simpler. What they have said, for instance in that message reported by macfamilyent, is that they are simplifying the existing Barclaycard Cashback account ranges". I don't know how many accounts they have that fit that category but it does seem that they are cutting back on the number. It may therefore, in the future, be simpler for new card account holders to check their own account conditions. (I don't know, it's just my interpretation of what they seem to be saying.)0 -
Hey folks,
So I got the letter over the weekend and looked at the terms and conditions applicable to the Barclaycard (previously Egg) world mastercard. I am on the 1% capped at £200 cashback limit, with other benefits like travel accident insurance, missed event cover, price promise, extended warranty, etc.
I think they have screwed this up as the change doesn't fall within the t&c's. I have asked them for which clause in t&cs allows them to do as per their letter and so far they have claimed it's clause 11.2 a) and b)1
11.2 Changes to terms (other than interest rates and charges)
(a) We may upgrade your account or enhance the services we provide to you if we reasonably consider this is to your advantage and there is no increased cost to you.
(b) We may also change any of the other terms of this Agreement for any of
the following reasons:
• where we reasonably consider that:
(1) the change would make the terms easier to understand or fairer to you; or
This does not apply as frankly it seems like a downgrade unless you were on other different types of accounts with tiers etc. In fact the new structure seems more complicated than what is was before. So I have asked this confirmation of the clause that applies in writing and if they don't come up with something more concrete, I plan on taking them to the Ombudsman. Anyone else want to join in a class lawsuit if it goes that far?0 -
You have been approved for the Amazon.co.uk MasterCard and your credit limit is £10,000

I have been watching this with interest. I was with Egg right from the off, and like others have said was disappointed with their demise.
I complained to Barclaycard via their online system (be prepared to be annoyed by multiple phonecalls from their offshore call centre if you do this - something which just annoyed me even more to be honest).
So far they have offered me £30 credit 'inconvenience' compensation, and a doubling of the cashback figures for 6 months.
I already have an Amex directly issued, and have asked them not to issue another - but they don't seem capable of doing this! They like all customer service 'script-trained' operatives seem to reiterate the same old cut and paste of benefits of Amex and this 'wonderful 'new product they have 'designed' for us.
I have rejected their latest offer and have counter offered for them to come back with a long-term 1% deal on the Visa side and not to issue the Amex. I've also asked them not to contact me by phone at both the top and bottom of the message - what's the betting I get a phone call?
Be interested to see if there is any wiggle room or others experiences regarding this.0 -
Had call from Injuns. No offer of £30 for inconvenience. Told them I was gonna spend £300 on the new card, claim my £15, and cancel it.illegitimi non carborundum0

I had a bit of a moan at them yesterday then got a call today where I got the offer of double cashback for 6 months. Guess I should have moaned a bit more to get the £30 inconvenience as well!0 -
Wonder if the Amex credit card will be contactless?
Does anyone know if the amazon one is contactless?0 -

Brilliant. None of my other credit cards are contactless but must admit to preferring this as a feature and choose to pay like this whenever possible0

So Barclaycard have made it harder to get free money and your all complaining because....0
