By the looks of it Barclaycards and Mastercards agreement in the UK has ended. As they issue no new Mastercard.

it was always one of 2 or 3 anomalies as a Barclaycard Mastercard. Barclays have been very tied up with Visa for years.
Barclays is a founding member of Visa

Just applied and been accepted for the amazon one, very quick application. Will look forward to all of my amazon vouchers, hopefully will be able to save these up which will be Christmas mainly taken care of :-)
  • Just sent a complaint to Barclays... so we Will see what happens!
I have looked at the T&C's and you are right.. it looks to be a breach?

I also have my bank accounts and mortgages with Barclay's.. so I have started to look at moving them too. I don't think they deserve my business.

So far Santander 123 and First Direct look best for a current account and regular savings.. Mortgage wise I will take a bit longer to sort out the best deal...

I have been watching this with interest. I was with Egg right from the off, and like others have said was disappointed with their demise.

I complained to Barclaycard via their online system (be prepared to be annoyed by multiple phonecalls from their offshore call centre if you do this - something which just annoyed me even more to be honest).

So far they have offered me £30 credit 'inconvenience' compensation, and a doubling of the cashback figures for 6 months.

I already have an Amex directly issued, and have asked them not to issue another - but they don't seem capable of doing this! They like all customer service 'script-trained' operatives seem to reiterate the same old cut and paste of benefits of Amex and this 'wonderful 'new product they have 'designed' for us.

I have rejected their latest offer and have counter offered for them to come back with a long-term 1% deal on the Visa side and not to issue the Amex. I've also asked them not to contact me by phone at both the top and bottom of the message - what's the betting I get a phone call?

Be interested to see if there is any wiggle room or others experiences regarding this.

this is good work all round.
well done getting a £30 credit.
a 6 month doubling could well make the cards useful to me, and i suspect others. when i have maxed my AEAmex then using the BCAmex at 2% would be alright...
i like your 'counter offer' idea...but i would be very pleasantly surprised if you manage to swing that.

bottom line for me is to play this right through, extract as much Cashback out of Barclaycard as i can & then [hopefully] when the cashback is uncompetitive merge my limit onto my Barclaycard Freedom account which currently has a BT balance on it.

if i wind up with MBNA and Barclaycard for Balance Transfers and just American Express Cashback for Spending, so be it. with a file that simple i may even get a long-requested increased CL from American Express:think:

Pretty sure VISA is accepted everywhere.

So Barclaycard have made it harder to get free money and your all complaining because....
    ....its only 0.5% cashback.

    I haven't.

I've spoken to someone in their Indian call center (they called on the back of my e-mail using the secure message, although I didn't ask for the call), and they offered £45 gesture of goodwill, because he didn't know when/if there going to 'pro-rata' refund the annual fee.

He said that they haven't yet mailed any letters [they where to go out on Friday], and implied like the switch-over would only complete in July - which contradicts what the 'Web Relations' team said:
Hi, I'm sorry you haven't received any correspondence from us about this as yet. It should definitely be on it's way if you haven't received it yet. I can confirm that all High 5 cards will be affected. You can continue to use your existing card until your new cards arrive, subject to your account being in order. Your existing card will be deactivated 30 days after you receive your May 2014 statement.
I presume that we'll have letters in the next few weeks - as I presume there mailing them in big batches.
Thank you all for helping me make my day by saving money!

I haven't received any letters yet, does anybody know what happens to the missed event cover? Will tickets bought still be covered through until their date, beyond removal of the card? My partner buys festival tickets on the card specifically for this cover.

"Purchases you make on your old card before the move will be fully covered with regards to Purchase Cover, Price Promise and Extended Warranty. For Missed Event Cover and Travel Accident insurance qualifying transactions will continue to receive cover until the end of 2014."
