Barclaycard World MasterCard (Ex Egg Money) Being Replaced with Amex + Visa Combo
Comments

i didn't know B&Q don't take Amex. also, yes, Aldi don't. but other than 1 pub and The Post Office (who i usually want to pay with a business Visa anyway) i don't have any problems with Amex acceptance. i have been choosing to use my Barclaycard for the 2%/4% rate:wall:(that it's on the way)
there is a thread already re. Amex acceptance, of course:

That's interesting, when I last negotiated merchant fees for a company I was introducing to cards, the Amex merchant % was still much higher than Visa/MC, and it just wasn't worth considering - it was about 2 years ago mind you so things look to have changed then. At that time there was no difference for reward -vs- normal cards.
Yeah acquirers have only really charged merchants extra fees for different cards over last year or two. You also have to bare in mind with amex the fact that if its a retail business or restaurant that Amex will bring traffic on events such as small business saturday, giving cardholders £5 to spend at each business. One thing that some people make the mistake of doing as well is getting an amex rate quote from your acquirer. they will add commission on type, always contact Amex directly, I've sometimes gotten differences of over 1% between the two.0 -
Last year, I was attracted to the Luma Cashback Card, which offered 4% cashback on supermarket and fuel spending. However, it was pulled before I could apply. :-(

I wonder when "...in the New Year" they will be bringing it back? Hopefully before July!
I think you may have missed out a second time because I believe it was available earlier this year. At least some on MSE reported having been able to open an account when the page to which you link was still displayed. There is a thread about it - perhaps you have read that?0 -
Got the letter but had already planned to cancel when my cashback gets paid on the 12th March. A few months ago they charged me a late payment fee in error. No compo offered so they can get stuffed as already use Amex for all my spending0

might be worth speaking to them to see if you can get something out of them
i am on to them now. 4th person i've spoken to...so far;)0 -
Sent a secure message to express my dissatisfaction.
Got offered this :
Considering the fact that you have been with us from a long time, I am able to tag an offer on your account with the help of which you will be able to earn double the rate of cashback for 6 months from the date the account migrates.
So that's 2% on the AMEX and 1% on the VISA until November.
Better than nothing I suppose. Gives me a bit longer to shop around hoping something better comes along.0 -

The Indian I spoke to was basically a script reader. He passed me onto a UK girl, who gave me nothing.
