    Ok first off:

exercise is the most inefficient way to lose weight.

It takes seconds not to eat 500 calories whereas it takes up to 40 minutes running to achieve the same. But we are not talking weightloss on this thread we are after fatloss.

In answer to the last poster what do you hope to achieve by negating meat from the last meal, if it is simply a way of reducing your calorie intake then why not keep some meat in there and then just shave a few grammes off of each meal?

At the end of the day fatloss comes down to eating less calories than your maintenance level, working out exercise specific calorie burns is about as specific as sticking your finger in the air and guessing, whereas scales and a calorie calculator are accurate and dont wildly differ from person to person.

To all those that are stalling on their fat loss try this if you count calories:
Say you are on 2000 calories a day this week then next week drop it by 200 the subsequent week increase it by 100 the small amount of extra food is a blessing. Carry on this cycle until you hit the minimum for your weight guidelines, for most men who have a moderately active lifestyle 1400 is average minimum and women is 1200. Many make the mistake of going to this level and then trying to burn more through exercise but the body will slow down the energy release in a conservation effort.

But the best diet advice is this: 1) pick a diet which reflects your current eating patterns. A whole scale dietary intake change is unsustainable. If you like bread then eat it but just eat less! 2) Water yep you cannot get enough of it, 2 litres is basic hydration and add a litre for every hour of exercise. Your body struggles to metabolise fat efficiently if the essential organs are dehydrated.

Any dont mean to hijack ya and wish ya all well, I managed to shift near on 6 stone, and love chewin the breeze on this and have helped many get there along the way

    Hello everyone

I work full time, have an 18 month old child and never seem to have any spare time to prepare meals - consequently I cant seem to lose weight because I eat totally the wrong things. My idea is to eat mainly vegetables for my evening meal, even if they are piled high. Is this a good idea? Im vegetarian so wont miss the meat/fish but Im frightened I will not get enough protein?? Im not really sure how to substitute the meat (if I even have to??). The rest of the family eat meat, so theyre okay, but they all seem so much healthier than me!

Hi there, and welcome to the thread! We're all in the same boat-trying to find a healthier lifestyle to suit us. Some people here are on SlimmingWorld or WeightWatchers but a lot are 'going it alone' like you are.
As you are a vegetarian perhaps you could get quorn or some other kind of meat-replacement food for your meals. Alternatively perhaps add lentils/beans to your meals rather than meat (for example in bolognaise sauce or in a chili) and make that bit separately from your family's meals (in which they could still have meat)
And of course, lots and lots of veg is always a good idea!!

It sounds like you have a very busy life which is good as it means you are always moving around, perhaps you could cook too much of everything and freeze some portions so you always have healthy 'readymeals' for the busiest days??

That's all the 'advice' (i'm no expert!!) i have, but i'm sure the other lovely ladies (and gents!) on the thread can give you some more encouragement-they are much wiser than me!!
Sounds like ur getting off to a good start tho!

  • I just dont seem to have any time for exercise! Im up at 5am, start work at 7am and by the time I have been to work, come home, cooked for the family, put the baby to bed and packed bags for the next day, its 7.30pm. I only have 20mins lunch, so by the time I eat something, its over! I have tried to exercise after 7.30pm, but it just stops me getting to sleep, and when I have to be up at 5am, I just cant function!

I walk a lot at the weekends and play with my son in the park, but I know its just not enough. I just dont know the answer.

As I dont eat meat, I wasnt really making a change to my last meal by removing the meat - I was merely thinking that if I just eat a big plate of vegetables, it will fill me up - Im just not sure if it is enough nutrionally?

hi, iwilldoitthistime. I too work full time and have a 21month old son. Managed to gain 3 stone during pregnancy and after (and I'd only lost the weight to get pregnant!).

My day usually starts at 6.30 and doesn't end till DS goes to bed at 8. My OH works shifts so there's 4 days out of every 8 that I'm completely on my own, so I know where you're coming from... I do have one or two suggestions to make....
is there any way at all you can make your working day more active? Even walking around the room every hour or so is something....
Try menu planning and as katmad has suggested bulk cooking. I know someone who plans and cooks their weeks meals on a sunday and freezes them. Maybe you could use a sunday afternoon? I usually cook a roast chicken on sunday and then use the leftover meat to make curry for monday...... I know you're vegetarian but perhaps you could adapt the idea or make huge pots of soup? There's a link to the recipe thread on the first post, maybe you could get some ideas from there.

Having said all that, from my own experience, I bet your life is really hectic. I'd say your active lifestyle is enough at the minute, just try cutting out junk food and allowing yourself a little treat every so often, or try the slimming world plan, ajax might be able to help you out with some ideas for meals

. OH and try yoga.... you'll be so relaxed and chilled out you'll sleep like a baby, it'll tone you up really well too.

Whatever you decide to do, good luck and stick with us.!

  • Morning all!

I have just done my weekly home weigh in and I have lost another 2lb this week! I am so happy with that. :T

Actually I thought it was 3 off, but the scales tipped back up again, so maybe I was almost there - must keep trying this week.

This week I have been doing WW points, and i have been to the gym twice already (hopefully going Thurs and Fri as well).

    Good luck everyone xx

    Morning All,

Well, after being an example to all last week (with the smacking of the bottom and the pounding of the stick), it's kinda of paid off.... I've lost the 1lb I gained last week.

So... back to plateau-ville for me! I seem to have a similar problem to others in that I just cannot get under the 11 stone/70kg mark... and quite frankly it's getting on my nerves!

Having said that though, I have noticed (as has my husband :o) that I have more shape now, like a slightly flatter stomach, slightly smaller thighs, so I can only assume that that must be where all the effort's going

Anyhoos, as usual congrats to all the losers and commiserations to the gainers, and the plateauers like me...? Check your thighs...:p:rotfl:
