Hi, I have been AWOL for a while. I have been on holiday and had a lovely time, just down to the coast but when the sun shines you can't beat the UK.

I packed loads of clothes, all my best/favorites and came home with half of them still unworn. It just goes to show that you don't really need half the stuff you possess.

Yesterday I had my hair cut, I have chosen a new hairdresser using a recommendation and am really pleased. I now have a side parting and it certainly looks like I have a bit more style. I have kept the length and am still continuing with deep conditioning treatments. My holiday did not help though, chlorine and brisk sandy winds have dried it out terribly.:(

I got loads of exercise on holiday and noticed how unfit I am and put on a couple of pounds. I am going to nip this in the bud by being very good and keeping very active.:)

I have been using the individual lashes with great results, they seem to last a few days and look very natural.

I've just read this whole thread! Some fab advice. :)

Firstly, well done on escaping a violent relationship, you should be very proud. :)

I separated from my ex a year ago, and my confidence was an all-time low. I started by having a huge makeup and underwear declutter. Then I bought myself a fabulous MAC lipstick, which is now my signature lipstick - and some new bras. And I totally agree with those who say: get yourself measured even if you think that your bras fit perfectly. I had been wearing 34C bras (and thought that they were fine), turns out that I'm a 32E!!!! Amazing the difference a correctly-fitting bra makes.

I went to M&S recently when they had final reductions on, and bought 8 bras and 10 pairs of matching pants for £50!!! They're all gorgeous and they make me feel amazing.

I agree with all the advice about finding your own style rather than slavishly following fashion trends. Charity shops (especially in posh areas) often have brand new clothes with the tags still on - I buy most of my clothes from them. I have a wardrobe full of stuff from French Connection, Zara, Principles, Topshop, La Redoute, Oasis, Benetton etc - all bought at a fraction of the original price. :D

Being well-groomed and making a little effort with hair and makeup definitely pays off, and always makes me feel better.

Also, there's something to be said for making the most of what you have, rather than trying to be something you're not. I use skincare, hair products, makeup, nail varnish, body lotion etc BUT I'm not a fan of fake tan, fake eyelashes, acrylic nails, hair extensions, chicken fillets and the like.

Each to their own and all that, but if it gets to the 'high maintenance' stage then is it worth all the exhausting and expensive effort???

Remember when Girls Aloud first came along, and poor Nicola was fake tanned to the hilt to fit in with the others? She looked terrible, and so uncomfortable. Now she's embraced her pale skin and red hair, and looks AMAZING.

Thank you Tayforth, I was in a very destructive relationship for six years, not only was he physically violent he was very mentally cruel. For years he gradually made me into a trembling wreck, walking on egg shells so as not to upset him. Of course all his behavior was my fault according to him !

Once we finally split I made it my mission to trace some of his exes, OMG what horror stories I heard, broken arms, black eyes and one poor sole he as made infertile. I have survived and am now stronger in mind. Even now he says nobody will ever want me, not with 4 kids. I still have to maintain links with him as we have children together.

He now has moved on and the woman he is with is a shadow of her former self, very very thin and withdrawn. I feel so sorry for her, I did warn her but like I, did not listen.

I am really determined to prove to myself that I am worth everything and am feeling a bit like a butterfly about to spread her wings. This is all I am going to say on the matter as I am well an truly moving on.

On a lighter note I recieved this in the post from Sun+perks membership yesterday. I haven't tried any of it yet, but I love a freebie.

Today I am going to have a a bit more of a sort through my accessories, how many brown belts does a girl need? I am only going to keep the best items so as to avoid temptation/laziness to wear scruffy/old fashioned/ugly ones !!
  • Thought I'd resurrect this thread - is everyone now glamorous? Or just too busy with treatments & "stuff" that they have no time to post?

As a 40-something that has just spent most of this weekend eating & drinking the wrong stuff, this thread has been a kick up the harris that I think I need. I'm the opposite of glamorous, living in fleece, walking boots & trousers (partly needed for work, but I tend to wear them all the time). Never wear make up (contact lens wearer so any eye make tends to cause problems) & my disobedient shoulder length hair is always worn up - partly for work & also because it just looks so terrible down.

I really need taking in hand.
& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin :D

Just read the whole of this thread, I've also decided to start looking after myself, think i'm in need of a little tlc. Started to look after my nails using nail varnish and plenty of handcream. Having hair cut this week and have made an appointment to have it coloured in three weeks. If is booked I will go. One of the big things for me is that I have started to add more colour in my wardrobe, like pastel pink, pale blue most of my wardrobe consists of beige, brown and black with abit of dark blue thrown in.x

I went through my toiletries and cleaned out all the half used stuff that I don't like but couldn't justify throwing away and got rid.y slowly trying to revamp some of my wardrobe, if it doesn't fit or doesn't make me feel good it's away to charity shop ( within reason obviously I can't through it all out lol)

I was out at a party on Saturday and had some make up on and reminded me that a little make up looks good so will try to make more of an effort in mornings...

I have also joined the gym but need to book my induction so just going to classes so far. But I am enjoying going..
