I've sent DH out for some shopping this morning. He dislikes it very much and so buys only what is on the list. I am hoping to recover my spendy-spend from last weekend by having mostly a freezer and store cupboard fortnight. Just fruit, veg and dairy fresh things to buy - oh and some rolls for bacon rolls tomorrow when the womens cycle race whizzes through.
I hope the rain leaves off, we've had a heavy shower in the last hour but the sun is out now. Have a good weekend and remember your lists/meal-plans!
SLSave £12k in 2025 #2 I saved £14,660.97 of £6000 or 244.35% of my target. The 2026 Save £12k in 2026 thread is here

Hi All,
I haven't had chance to update my spending for about 9 days, so thought I should 'fess-up' and put it down in black and white. I am a sucker for a 'bargain' and have ended up buying lots of fresh fruit (which we will eat...we get through tonnes of the stuff) and meat for the freezer. I have also visited a food fair this week which of course ended up in buying stuff which e didn't really need, including a massive tray of strawberries and some really expensive curry sauce (£3.50 a pot! I would never have spent this in a supermarket). I have got loads of food in though and am hoping to still some in under my budget (which I know is huge - I am going to cut it down next month and try and reduce it bit by bit).
Anyway, since my last post I have spent £269.54 (gulp).
I would be interested to know if people think they spend less by doing a big shop every week or so, or by going and doing little and often, just getting what they need for the next 24/48 hrs?
Can I also ask about the abbreviations used in this thread...what does YS mean??
Thanks.Grocery Challenge May=£587.13/£600,
June= £ ??/£500 (total disaster)
July = £381.42/£500 NSD = 80 -

Hi,
Just wondering would it be ok if I was to join in? Seriously need to curb my spending!May Grocery Challenge : 64.81 so far
May NSD: 00 -
Welcome Happy torty.
Poolie purse strings - I do a big shop (online now) on payday and try to buy canned stuff, bottles, cleaning and toiletries to last the rest of the month (there are only the 2 of us).
Then once a week I shop for fresh stuff at Mr Al*i mainly now. Since starting SW have been popping out more often for extra milk - not really got into exactly how much we need yet - but bread consumption is way down!!! I put my Grocery budget money in a separate account after taking off the online spend as that is on credit card. Then divide that up between the remaining weeks. I am the one you'll see wandering round Al*i with a pen and paper to make sure I don't go over what's in my purse!:rotfl:
It was a bit trial and error at first though. Perhaps try one method for a month and change and see which you prefer?July 16 £95/£200
Nov 16 £0/£200

Hello HappyTorty! Entry to this challenge is by invite only - your own invite to yourself, that is!!! Welcome aboard!
I've been writing my list this evening for my ald! shop tom am. There's a new super six, so I can feel some rhubarb crumble coming on, and dd will be happy with some baby corn. Don't need a huge amount really though. I used my phone calculator last week to keep it under my week's budget of £18, so I think I'll try the same trick tomorrow.
Two more shops after tomorrow, and I'll need to spend around £15 on pet food too, so need to be careful. This month is proving easier for me than last though, I think possibly because it is now so real in terms of budgetting...
Bit of good news though - my full time job has been extended!! This means I can plan to clear debts more quickly than I'd thought. Must stay focussed, and see if I can do it by next Christmas.
Bf helped me in work today, and then he bought dinner for us, so whatever I would've had is saved for another day! On the downside, I was feeling rubbish last night, so went to bed early, then realised this morning that I'd left the leftovers on the side!! It was only pasta bake, but it could've been a dinner for me. :@
Night all, hope you're all having a great weekend
