Well dinner tonight was ok. Not sure I would rush to do it again. It was beef and tomato casserole and all hubby could say was "it's not like our normal casserole!"
Anyway there was tons of it left, even though ds1 kept asking if there was meat in it! The cubes of beef had shrunk during cooking. I have frozen one large portion for another meal and got a small portion for lunch tomorrow!Grocery challenge-

I would be interested to know if people think they spend less by doing a big shop every week or so, or by going and doing little and often, just getting what they need for the next 24/48 hrs?
Thanks.HappyTorty wrote: »So I thought I should add this to see where I can save money. I'm not too bad at food shopping, but I know there are places I can save.
This was a good stock up, so shouldn't have to buy muchIt's rare for a voucher to be valid for more than one purchase, and the ones they send me for having a Clubc@rd that are valid for 2 uses are clearly marked as such on the front (top right corner if memory serves me right). And even then they can only be used against one item in any one shop, so you have to do two shops to use it twice (not tried doing them both in the same visit, but that could work as I don't think they say on separate days).
Shopping yesterday at Morry and spent £12.59 but got loads of YS stuff and an NSD today :j
We had HM coq au vin, new pots with steamed carrots and broccoli - there is half left to freeze for another meal
Hope you all have a magnificent Monday

Spent £27.31 in Morries on my way home from work yesterday which was supposed to be a top up shop. It has reminded me that I shouldn't pop in to the supermarket on my way home from work!!
We needed milk, cordial, fresh fruit and veg for the week and sandwich fillings. I also came home with a bottle of wine that I felt I deserved after a hectic week at work (that I then didn't want after getting an awful headache once I got home!), a few packets of biscuits and chocolate snacks, tinned chickpeas (even though there's loads of tins in the house already!) and lemonade! I suppose it could have been worse, but I felt like slapping my wrist when I got home.
Not left with a great deal of the budget and with just over 2 weeks to go I'm not sure how it will go! I did overspend at the start of the month (£20 on alcohol!) but still have a lot of it. I am however off for a week from Wednesday so will hopefully be able to spend a bit more time making meals out of what we have. Definitely need another freezer & cupboards stocktake, there's tinned food everywhere at the moment!!:rotfl:MFW 2016 #32 £1574.66/£1500:j:j0 -

NSD today.
Cold wet and windy here, some friends came round for morning tea, and managed to brighten the day for us.
Dh took the boat out yesterday and caught some huge snapper, gurnard and kahawai. Smoked the kahawai today and will make bulk fishcakes/fish pie tomorrow.
Friend bought round some wool from her pet sheep and wants me to spin it for her. Have promised to do what I can, but am finding it hard to do much of anything at the moment. Have just changed my meds and hope they will make a difference, but they do not have a very high success rate.0 -

Florenceem wrote: »I line sandwich tin with HM shortcrust pastry. I don't bother with blind baking. I beat 2 eggs with some pepper/mustard powder and add some cream - either single or double. I put some grated cheese in quiche tin then flake some smoked mackerel on top. Then I pour on the cream/egg mixture. No exact amounts - depends on tin/dish size + I tend to make it up as I go. I think I put some wilted spinach on top of the smoked mackerel but you could use - chopped spring onion / fine sliced brocolli - part cooked in MW or thin strips of pepper. Quiche is great for using up bits. I am making a batch of quiches tomorrow. I got some YS goats cheese on Friday + I have quite a few eggs.
I always have eggs in so this sounds good, and tend not to buy YS cheese because can't think of a use!
