So I thought I should add this to see where I can save money. I'm not too bad at food shopping, but I know there are places I can save.

There is myself and my fianc!

    So today:
Iceland shop £34.14, but had £10 discount voucher, so came to £24.14 instead.
Also went to Aldi and spent £40.67

    Total today : 64.81

This was a good stock up, so shouldn't have to buy much

Need to tot up receipts and check where I'm up to, but I know I'm nearly at budget and still 10 days before payday

Hoping to do the sums tomorrow, but already know I need some NSDs if I'm going to get through the month.

Have some stuff in, so got myself organised and did some batch cooking. Some of it was prep stuff (like frying and freezing leeks) ready as building blocks for meals, but will save me oodles of time and hopefully mean it's easier to use what I've got in.

Going to catch up on posts here then do my meal plan for next week :A

Do you have a sandwich tin (round, or even a square one) for cake making? You can make them just fine in one of those :)

A spend of £6 yesterday on toilet rolls at MrA. I get paid on Friday and I should only need to buy milk, veg and salad before that.

I have meal planned between now and then using things from the freezer and cupboards.

It has been a good month :j

Yesterday, I went to the local SV, and spent €85. But the initial cost was €106. I had a 5% off voucher, spend €50 and get €10 off, and a handful of coupons on products I use anyway that I got for stores. And needed ketchup as both DD and the au pair use gallons, so bought 6 bottles on a good offer.

I also spent €32 across the road in Lidl. Missed their (slightly better) ketchup offer, but got a net of avocados good value (for my salad lunch boxes), 3 bottle of wine ( no Pinot Grigio recently, but Soave in nice and Sth African Merlot, and both under €6). Lots of cheese (we all eat lots), and 2 apple turnovers for DH and dd.

This week is mostly from the freezer.
    Seafood pasta last night.
Feta stuffed chicken thighs, roast pots and cauliflower cheese today.
    DH making chilli tomorrow.
    Chick fajitas Tuesday.
Sausages, tomato sauce, roasted veggies and pasta.
    Spag Bol.
Doing an M&S or takeaway night fri, as 1st communion here sat and expecting loads of visitors, and need to bake, clean, maintain calm, iron dresses etc.

But will have emptied out lots from freezer, and found all my single portions for DH being away the following week.

    Hello everyone, and happy Sunday!

I've just put away my ald! shop which came to £18.43. Very happy with that!! Just about to make myself a bacon roll... Yummy!

I have, however, realised that as well as needing to spend around £15 on pet food, I'll also need loo rolls this month. Cue a trip to ffoods for those, and hope I can still make £100 this month!

I'm off to enjoy my bacon roll, see you soon!

Weekly food shop for essentials saw me spend £26.88 at aldi. It would have been less but I got two packs of mince and two packs of sausages. We regularly have these and they were on offers I thought I would get them for the following week.
Really pleased with my spending this month. Nearly half way and not spent half of the budget yet. Made a chicken curry for tea yesterday and put two portions in the freezer. Beef and tomato casserole in there at the moment. I am hoping to either get another meal out of it for the freezer or have some for lunch tomorrow. I will see how much there is left!

Any chance of a very quick recipe for the smoked mackerel quichel? I am looking to broaden my culinary horizons soon and start making quiches (I just need to buy a quiche dish first) and would love any tips!! I have made them a couple of times before but it was just cooking for kids when I was a (garcon) au pair in France, so it was more a case of get it done rather than make sure its amazing
I line sandwich tin with HM shortcrust pastry. I don't bother with blind baking. I beat 2 eggs with some pepper/mustard powder and add some cream - either single or double. I put some grated cheese in quiche tin then flake some smoked mackerel on top. Then I pour on the cream/egg mixture. No exact amounts - depends on tin/dish size + I tend to make it up as I go. I think I put some wilted spinach on top of the smoked mackerel but you could use - chopped spring onion / fine sliced brocolli - part cooked in MW or thin strips of pepper. Quiche is great for using up bits. I am making a batch of quiches tomorrow. I got some YS goats cheese on Friday + I have quite a few eggs.
