Thanks so much, i appreciate it :)

Is it the norm to do high fat low carb, or do other people tend to do low fat and low carb as well?

I'm just curious really. I am doing LCHF and although i am only on my 2nd day, i am feeling much less bloated after meals, and much fuller than when i was doing a high carb diet.
  • I think that low fat low carb would not be sustainable, because you need to get a source of energy from somewhere. You may become really hungry and lack energy.

Saying that, please be aware that on a low carb high fat diet, people sometimes feel unwell during the first 7-10 days due to the change in ways of eating. It's known as low carb flu! Make sure you are having enough salt to try and prevent/cure this - drinking stock/Bovril is an easy way. It replaces electrodes lost in the body from this way of eating.

On Sunday I had another recipe from my new Tom Kerridge book - rib eye steak chasseur. Again, amazing and quite easy! I was supposed to do a pork belly recipe last night after work, but when I read the recipe the pork needed slow roasting for three hours - this was a 6pm! So we had birds eye chicken chargrills (guilty pleasure) with stir fried Savoy cabbage, shallots and bacon lardons - yum. I'll do the pork tonight as I'm only working until 2pm.

The other problem with low fat is that they replace fat with sugar !!,
I had mashed cauli and swede to use up so reheated those with a slice of belly pork, I am not sure today but it will include cavello nero, thinking as I type probably liver, will have to look at my freezer stock.

Thank you both very much. It makes sense about doing high fat, and although I'm only on day 3, i am feeling much more satiated from the fat, which is lovely!

It still feels 'naughty' and i feel guilty using so much fat in food, when previously i have tried to keep fat intake ultra low. However, this is something i am dealing with and will get easier i am sure.

I had a lovely chocolate mousse for breakfast this morning, which i made from coconut cream and a few other things. really lovely!

    Fifth Anniversary
I'm back on the low carbs now! I went back on it at the beginning of Jan and then fell hideously ill and fell off the wagon. Currently experiencing that normal withdrawal type headache but I know it will pass and trying hard to make sure I get my minimum 2L of water intake plus green tea, etc.

Dinner last night was lovely - Steak with mushrooms and carrot and swede mash. Aunt Bessie is surprisingly low carb so have stocked up as I love the stuff!! Lunch today is grilled chicken with the mash.

The only thing I struggle with is breakfast - I usually have a Protein World shake but am determined to stick to it.

Quick question though - for those who have sustained this, do you ever a 'cheat' meal and if so, how often?

P.S. So glad this thread has become more active - it's so helpful and motivating!

I live alone so simple for me, I just don`t buy it. but yes I have had the odd cheat day, as long as you don`t go overboard and it`s very occasional, perhaps once a week I didn`t think it hurt my loss.
I lost it big time over Christmas, from the start of December really, still struggling to get back properly, need to lose about 20lb to get back to my happy weight of 10st-10st 7lb .

  • Like pamsdish, I lost it over Christmas as I was away on holiday. I don't sweat if I have a cheat day, tomorrow is always another day.

Today I'm making Chinese pork hot pot for tea (that I planned to have yesterday). It has a lot of chillies in it, so I'm not sure it'll be to my taste, but I'll try anything once!

    Evening :)

i think i am experiencing what they call 'Keto Flu'. I feel awful :( Very nauseous, exhausted, aching legs, brain fog, complete lack of appetite..all the classic symptoms.

I know it's different for everyone, as not everyone experiences it. but for any of you who did experience it, how long did it last?

    Why do Low Carb?

You are not going to lose weight any faster.

It's about calories not macros. Body needs carbohydrates there's a reason you feel awful.

All studies to date have shown that there is no significant different to mow fat low carb when calories are equated.
