K9sandFelines, I also love my bread but I am not "looking" for it at the moment, perhaps my body is not asking for carbs as much, I do like the Burgens Soya and Linseed bread, per slice 125 cals, fat 4.8g, carbs 11g, fibre 5g, which if I am correct makes 6g net carbs, I would love to be corrected if not correct in my calculations, still learning, I buy it from the co-op 2 for £2 and sometimes have orange stickers as not generally bought.
Instead of rice/pasta I am using a lot of cauli, 69p a head at Aldi last week, although shelf sticker said £1-19, carrott mash is another popular with me alternative.
Do I need it or just want it.

The fibre has already been taken off on foods here in the UK, it's only in the states you have to subtract it. So your bread is 11 carbs net per slice. Sorry.

Hi retiredlady, thanks for the info on net carbs, I understand then anything we buy in U.K. in nutritional info carbs are after fibre deducted, I have downloaded a recipe this morning http://alldayidreamaboutfood.com/2013/02/brownie-cheesecake-low-carb-and-gluten-free.html looks rather yummy and not full of odd ingredients, it serves 10 !! so will try reducing recipe size, 6.2 carbs 2.1 fibre net 4.1, in this case I am okay to count it as the net total, please say yes,

Yes! I must admit I do get frustrated with a lot of the recipes on low carb sites. They seem to concentrate on sweet foods, cookies, cakes desserts etc. the carb count seems nice and low until you actually make the thing and find a small little dish is supposed to serve 16 people:eek: we didn't get where we are today but eating thimble size portions!
I've learned that I do best by ignoring all these sweet recipes and just eat plain food. Meat, eggs, cheese in moderation. If you fancy a sweet a handful of berries with cream is good. Or mock Danish is good too:
    Mock Danish

2 oz cream cheese (soften in microwave)
    1 egg
    1 tblspn splenda
    1 tsp lemon concentrate
    1/2 tsp vanilla

mix softened cream cheese and egg. Add remaining ingredients. microwave on high for 2 minutes.

I added some Berries in the centre before nuking... delicious.

    * it tastes better if you don't totally mix the egg and cream cheese; you get little pockets of crm cheese.

Hi retiredlady - I agree that many things are just like you said.
Have you looked at the recipe list? There are many things all over the spectrum. Some sweet but many bread alternatives, stews, curries, make from scratch in all ways - good stuff. Crackers! And the mock danish :) Have to say I prefer the mock choc danish - I like chocolate :) X

I'll come back and post the link.
The list was made by me from people on here who had found a good Low Carb thing they liked. Really worth 20 mins of your time just going through it :) Trust me :) X

    Yay! I'm back!

Hi All, how`s everyone doing, I appear to have lost another couple of pounds, :j.
Tried the mock danish, tasty for a treat, liked Mercy and retiredladys` recipes,
A little more help required when counting carbs please, looking into a recipe yesterday, chocolate salami, I like having something to just pop if I get the urge, it`s about sweetener I have no preference taste wise and was quite happy with Aldi The Pantry sweetener, however for cooking the carb load is high, what alternatives are available please.

I use liquid sweetener, doesn't have that carb hit.
Hermesetas Liquid At Amazon, or boots sells it I think. A bottle lasts ages as you only need a few drops. Great for sweetening plain Greek yogurt or those mock Danish!
You can bake with it too.

Hi trying to get back to low carb but keep falling off

I just bought from Amazon for £4.99. Trying to get my heads around fat bombs but struggle as most recipes american so in cups grrrrr. I'm rubbish if I don't follow a recipe.

Does anyone use coconut oil? It is always solid? Am struggling to measure it out.

    Any tips gratefully received.

I've used Coconut oil recently but for the price it costs i'd avoid it

It's expensive, has a very low smoking temp so makes it more fragile than other oils and it's composed of almost 100% saturated fats.

It's always solid for the one i use but it melts very easily.
