Sticky Threads

If I recall the situation correctly, Ormus' thread was made a sticky when Ormus himself was attempting to access it (on an ipad?) after his stroke.
I think that became impossible after some mini-strokes.
We usually pop on to the thread on public holidays to let Ormus and family know we're thinking of them so I certainly would have visited the thread at Easter, probably father's day, some point in the summer, Ormus' birthday (if we know when that is). I wouldn't like to see the thread closed. I don't mind if it isn't a stick as long as MSE sends a personal beautifully worded message to Craig (sonoformus) to explain what is going on.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -
Which makes th sticlkies irrelevant.
I get this is a whole money making thing now, but there is no reason they had to change something so fundimetnal BEFORE changing the forum design.
It seems to be the kind of commercial decison we were afraid of when the site was sold on.
I don't see this as particularly a 'commercial' decision.
Just a bad one.0 -
interesting that every other board has had its stickies wiped out (put into one thread but they may as well have been wiped out for all the good they are now) except this one!
Loads of stickies on this board have escaped the round up so why is that? If you are going to make a mess of the boards you may as well do it to all of them0 -

it was always inevitable that the site would change, despite many protestations to the contrary by Martin and the team (bless their naievety)
It's now part of "big business" and will have to behave accordingly so it's changing from the lovely, friendly community site that it once was to a much more commercial entity. Those changes, subtle at first, are now really gathering speed and becoming very noticeable.
and it's spoiling it0 -
Is it not possible to have the sticky thread:-
* At the top, as now.
* The title to consist of the words 'Important - Sticky Posts', followed by one line for each linked thread.
* Each link to have an arrow for 'latest unread post' on the left.
All stickies would thus be in view at the top but, being incorporated into the one post title, would take up far less space than all the separate stickies.
New users could click on a thread title to start reading one, while regular users could click on a blue down arrow to go to the latest post.
Any newly added sticky would be visible as soon as added.
As they would all be visible, there should be less temptation for new users to start a new thread on the subject.0 -

In one section of the phones board, there is a thread asking why the sticky threads format has been changed.
The board guide says that other threads may be added to the short list in the new single sticky thread, and asks for any additions to be suggested within the thread.
But that is impossible as the thread is now locked.
In another section of the phones board, there is a similar thread about the changes.
On that I've suggested adding the long roaming thread I mentioned here earlier, which did use to be one of the threads pinned at the top, with reasonably frequent replies.
No action or reply (even if negative) so far.
Some of this new policy is a bit difficult to understand.0 -
Hi redux
Can you give me the link to that roaming thread you mentioned please so I can take a look?
ThanksCould you do with a Money Makeover?

Yes that's the one, which used to be pinned, and I think is a fair candidate to continue.
(I don't think it's only personal bias due to my number of replies there)
My previous comments, plus the thread locked after Browntoa asked for suggestions:
